I'm a boy (and she's a girl).  ;)

Yes, at one time in the not-too-distant past, the wealthy and even some middle class families used to dress their preschool boys in little girls dresses and even hairstyles. Who knows, maybe some still do?

Ah, the Who at their most flowery, dandy best.  ;D

I had originally wanted to tackle something a bit 'larger' by The Who for this fest - all or part of 'A Quick One', their first mini-opera (and I may take a crack at it yet). I had been practicing it on and off during this fest, but then found myself at the end of the fest with nothing recorded yet.

Started this on Saturday chunking away on my acoustic guitar using the MicroBR on-board mic, and then added the zingy (and crunchy) guitars with the new Rickenbacker 330 and the MicroBR using the SuperCln and VO Comp effects patches. I had intended to add some Rickenbacker bass to it, but for some reason it wasn't working for me. Instead, I simulated the bass line on my guitar, using the MS Drive patch to add some fuzz to it. Unfortunately, there are no drums (sorry, Keith).

Did a little research on the origin of the song, and it was originally intended to be in a rock opera The Who never made named 'Quads', which was set in a future when parents could choose their child's sex (not so far-fetched nowadays). 'I'm A Boy' was released by The Who on 26 August 1966, and reached Number 2 on in the UK Singles Chart and Number 7 in Ireland. Sadly, it didn't chart in the U.S. at all. I first heard it on the 'Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy' collection in the late 70s, when first discovering The Who. I've loved the song since.

Thanks for listening,
cuthbert

I don't know the original, but your cover tastes of The Who for sure. And the Rickenbacker sounds perfect for the situation.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Shit this is really good my fellow Mainah!! I've always loved your vocal harmonies, but this is by far my favorite. And the Rick sounds awesome too.

Top notch cover and the Rickenbacker gives it that authentic Who sound. Another classy post.   Willie
