I had been noodling around on my mandolin, trying to see what songs it might be fun to feature it on - as kind of change of pace and a challenge. I took a crack at this relatively recent (circa 1994) Allman Brothers song, which I thought might be a good fit for an unplugged adaptation. As usual, I learned a lot along the way. Not sure if it's totally successful, but I decided it was time to stop working on it and send it out into the word. Any feedback, let me know and thanks for listening.

Always loved this tune. The solo by Warren Haynes should be required listening for anybody who wants to play (or burn their ) guitar. I think think this works really well in this form. Love the instrumentation and the playing. If you want a critique, I think the background vocals could be tightened up as they seem a bit disparate from the main vocal.

Killer post and great notion. Love how you approximated the middle sections between the Warren and Dickey solos.

What night are you hitting Wanee?

Thanks Blooby! Always one of my favorites as well, probably the song I missed the most after Dickey left - it just wasn't the same with Great Southern, really makes you appreciate Butch and Jaimoe.

If the harmony vocals are the only criticism, I'll take that as a compliment, 'cause I totally agree! Initially I recorded it in A, but it was too low for my voice, so I moved it to C, which meant I couldn't sing high enough (well) for the harmonies. It is what it is, I figured.

I had forgotten how insane Warren's solo is! I listened to a few of Jack Pearson's takes on it, as research, and those might be even more insane. I wanted to challenge myself and do it on slide dobro, but that D-E progression is not nearly as forgiving as the more traditional A>D>E>D>A progression.

I'll be at Wanee Weds late afternoon - let's figure this out this time for reals! Can't wait!

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
