BOSS Tone Studio for BR-80/BR-800

I wonder why BOSS has never added compatibility for their Tone Studio program to their BR recorders. The ability to trade patches would be a boon for BR users. At least I think so, anyway! The BR-80 and BR-800 are both currently still on their catalog, so I would think that they would want to add them to the Tone Studio, if for no other reason, as to be a "gate-way drug" to some of their larger offerings (such as the GT-100 etc.). Just my $0.02.

It's typical by Roland/Boss/Edirol.

But there are even worse surprises, with Roland/Boss

What about the fact (my personal experience) that's impossible to update my Mac, because if I do it, I would loose the possibility to use my Boss VG-99 and my Edirol M16DX digital mixer? Ah, I was forgetting, I had to sell my Roland SonicCell for the same reason. And I'm planning to sell the GT-Pro and the GR-30, again for the same reason. At every OS change, some of the Roland/Boss hardware (projected for use with a computer) cannot be used anymore...

I feel your pain on the whole OS-upgrade/hardware obsolescence front. What's worse is the fact that (most often) you can't even use OS virtualization to work around this either.

But as far as the Tone Studio is concerned, I would expect that they could update it because it is a current offering. I have a Digitech GNX4 that uses their extended X-edit software. X-edit supports several of their modelers using the same interface. I just thought that, because of the complexity of creating deep edit patches on the BR's, BOSS/Roland could include them in their PC editing software. After all, they touted the PC interactivity as a selling point (with the BR-800 anyway). If we are to except the (almost required) use of a DAW to get full functionality from the BR-800, then why shouldn't we also have the convenience of PC patch editing as well?

Oh well, I'm not really complaining that much, it was just an idea I had the other day while editing patches on my GNX4. The BR-800 is still an excellent tool and I'm not going to stop using it. I just may not use the built in guitar effects quite as much because the OLDER GNX4 offers more convenience using the PC based X-edit software.

Thanks for the reply, and take care.
