I'm surprised that several of you are saying you're not into The Kinks. I think they're awesome! Maybe you just haven't listened to enough of their music? Check out some of these songs. They might inspire you.

YouTube doesn't allow embedding with most of their music videos nowadays, making you visit their site instead. So I'll just provide links for these ones since the videos won't play here anyway.

Quote from: Lurker on July 11, 2016, 02:47:54 PMI love to write parody lyrics and sing them, but I have no equipment.  Any recording I do is at Bruce's (Blooby's).  It's hard to find the time to get to his place.  That's why many of our recent posts are live gigs.  Those have been put off lately too.  I'd love to sing over a Johnny Robbo backing track, but the opportunity isn't there.

There's a lot of excellent free software available for recording. Audacity is a popular choice but there are many more. All you need is a microphone. It doesn't need to be expensive. You could probably pick one up at a pawn shop for five or ten dollars. A USB audio interface to connect the mic to your computer would be nice but it isn't strictly necessary. Instead, you can plug the mic directly into the microphone input of your computer's sound card. The sound card's inputs are usually colour-coded, with the mic input being the pink one.

Or why not try a recording app for your smart phone or tablet? You could use the phone or tablet's built-in mic, so it wouldn't cost you a cent.

Quote from: kenny mac on July 10, 2016, 06:12:31 AMWe need a huge collab thing again to get this baby up and running again.

How about a huge Parody Fest collab? The lyrics could be done a line at a time like the Lyrics Collab mini-fest, with each line written by a different member. Somebody will have to choose the song first and work with a few other members to record the music. And it would probably be a good idea to choose a theme for the lyrics ahead of time too so everyone knows what they're writing about. As an added twist, each member could sing his own line too. If nobody fancies mixing all those vocal parts together, I'll do it.

Quote from: Hook on July 11, 2016, 03:08:05 PMLurker- I think you should quit your job...you could post more. Also, buy a damn MBR, guitar center here in tampa has one for 80 bucks and will ship it to the store near you for free. Ebay also often has them for around $50.

I agree that I should quit my job, but my family doesn't.  They like to eat.

I'm seeing the MBR for $249.99.  There is one on eBay for less, but I don't want to pay shipping from Spain.

I suggest "Where Have All the Good Times Gone?" by The Kinks.  I'll work on the tech in the meantime.

I have a mic.  I suppose that I could pick up a cable for XLR to 3.5 mm.  I'll have to research.

I think you're looking at the BR 80 Locker. The MBR is the original that they don't make anymore Kama FourTrax but in a lot of ways much better machine for the vocalist. When I get home I'll find the link and post them here.
You know man, they like to eat but they don't have to eat as much as they currently are. Rock on!

Not to diminish these thoughts, but some of these sentiments pop up every six months to a year. People have their own lives to lead, and I think it stands to reason they comment more when they eke out the time to post a tune. I am guilty of that as well, but I know I comment much more than I post over the long haul, so I try not to beat myself up about it. When I think of Songcrafters, I am still flabbergasted at the outright positivity that remains on this site.

My suggestion to build the community aspect of this site is a weird one. I suggest we all watch a movie at the same time (perhaps The Wizard of Oz in sync with Dark Side of the Moon, which is on YouTube) and have a thread for the live commentary. Yes, I know time zones are a pain, but if it's done on a weekend, some folks would be able to do it. I think the thread would get terribly amusing in real time.

Yes! Double-fester. We could call it "Does Anybody Like This Song?" so the lyricists could have a moan about the lack of comments.   ;D :D
