A tune I used to do in the last band I was in, back in 2009. Pretty much the same arrangement as we did back then, with the exception of added keyboards – we didn't have keyboard player in the band. The only other change is the ending – when I was recording the bass line & rhythm guitars, I forgot that the final bar of the chord sequence is different on the last time through & played it the same as on previous repeats. Couldn't be bothered re-doing it, so I just adjusted the lead part to fit.

Rhythm guitars (double tracked) – Telecaster
Lead guitar – Harley Benton (double tracked on the riffy parts)
Bass – Cheap ebay thing
Drums & string section – Cakewalk Studio Instruments
Organ – ORGANised VST

And, as ever, the Vox Tonelab for all the guitar tones.

Thanks for listening :)

John.

I used to play this as well in a band in the 90s so I know it's not an easy one to pull off, but you did it !!!

First band I ever went to see was UFO at the Hammy Odean (with Paul Chapman - who was an utterly brilliant replacement to Schenker. But then went to see MSG many times - love this tune and also Samurai, and many others. Great band, great player, great cover - I totally enjoyed this :-) More please Johnny - perhaps you can get Kenny to sing Samurai ;-) Love it.

Fabulous cover. Like my brother I played this in a band in the 90s. (Must have been the same band...) It was a fun tune to play, and you have done great job.

I am barely  standing after a sound snaking straight to the gob! I can't even imagine what it must be like to be so freaking proficient on an instrument. Impressive on many accounts.
Rock On!

..yes, the track certainly showcases your undoubted abilities..
There is a beautiful symphony playing within us all..

Thanks so much, chaps! I must confess, I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out.

Thanks, Farrell... I always like to get the drum track sounding as "real" as possible: Doing the drums on this took me a good 75% of the overall time it took to do the whole track, guitars & all. So it's gratifying when someone notices the effort  :)

On the subject of drums... the drummer in the band used to regularly speed this tune up, which made it a nightmare to do those fast picked riffy bits. Just goes to show...

Q) What's the difference between a real drummer & MIDI drums?

A) With MIDI, you only have to punch the information in once!  ;D
