I don't actively used samples much except for the odd sound effect or three, but I thought I would start a thread to share some sites that host them. Sounds range from the aforementioned sound effects to drum kits (or individual pieces), keyboard pads, voices, sections of solos that can be spliced together...you name it.

I stumbled on a recording studio's site where they record folks in New York (I think) for free and then post samples from the sessions. They are up past 35,000, and some of the kit and kit pieces are either fantastic sounding, inspirational or both. All the samples at the site are royalty-free. I'm going to wrestle with my BeatStep one of these days (gathering dust) to get a reggae kit happening.

If you know of any sites that are worthwhile (and legal), I was thinking we could post in the same thread for organizational purposes. If nobody cares, I will post my sample of crickets down.

Here is the site I mentioned: https://www.conversesamplelibrary.com/

I have a page of links to sites that have samples here:

https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/Samples.html

I haven't checked it in a long while, so some of the links could be broken. When I get some time, I'll check through it and fix any broken links. I'll also add the links posted by you (and hopefully others) here in this topic.

I'd also like to suggest that we use this topic for posting member-recorded sound effects and samples. Lots of members have a Micro BR or other small portable recorder that would be ideal for capturing sounds around the neighbourhood. Trains, traffic, dogs barking, birds singing, rain, thunder, etc. Or if you want to make a more musical sample, how about hand claps, finger snaps, whistling, cowbell, tambourine, shaker, other percussion instruments, or anything you can think of that other members might be able to use in their recordings. Chords and short phrases might be useful too, especially if you have access to some unusual instruments.
