Decent Headphones

Got a pair of Samson SR850 headphones for mixing. These were only £33 stg (came to €47 after VAT and shipping, the beauty of online shopping!) They are put forward in the spec for mixing (I know a lot of brands do) but they do get good reviews. I have not mixed a track yet but on first listen they sound great and are v comfortable.

Anyhow anyone on a v tight budget that uses headphones primarily for mixing just throwing this into the mix.

I've been looking at the sub zero studio headphones at gear4music. On my phone so can't link. But I am also on the look out for a small pair of monitors

Just checked those out ORH. Looks like you cant really go wrong at that price. I mix almost all the time in headphones now as am in a mid terrace house with nieghbours who work funny shifts, normally trying to sleep when i want to do my music!!

I've got a set of Sennheiser-HD-201-Closed-back headphones and do all my mixing/recording on them.
They are great and are on at a great price at gear for music as well

I've been using Superlux HD 681 for the last couple of years -I like 'em.

i bought a pair from pc world for about that price recently because when i first got my microbr i had a pair and i thought they where great for mixing.

 i needed a new pair so bought them for mixing on my br800 but was greatly disappointed, maybe i just got a crap set, but they are not as good as i remember them. a pair of akia headphones i got out of  m and b's for a tenner where far superior.

so i give them the thumbs down i'm afraid.

I'm not really into mixing - my headphones have broken and if I put the jack in halfway I can hear the backing track but no vocals, so I've been singing with one ear off and one one  . . .

i don't like my new Sennheiser-HD-201-Closed-back headphones for recording either, i was having to turn music tracks really low to hear vocal  when using them, at first i thought it was maybe the dynamics of the music i had recorded, then i plugged in my daughters uprock skull candy headyphones and could hear a lot clearer.

the skull candy headphones however are not closed back, so there is spillage when recording vocals. i think closed cup headphones for recording vocals or anything mic-ed is a must. for vocals it gives you greater control over expression and dynamics of vocals. and i'm afraid the hd-201's are a let down there.

in norway i had a pair of headphones that where held together with spit and string (no offence geir and i am sure they cost a few Krone) i am so glad i couldnt fit my hd-201's in my hand luggage.

that said they are great for listening, watching movies , gaming etc. for mixing no, i get a much better result from a pair of no brand pc speakers.

results from mixing on hd-201's = sounds too bassy on pipod, too tinny on car stereo and yuk on hi fi.
results from pc speakers = sounds the same on everything- not always a good thing if it's a song by me tho.
