BR80 wishlist (for firmware upgrade)

If by any chance some Roland/BOSS people are following this forum (I hope they are) I thought it would be a good idea to collect our wishes for possible future BR80 upgrades.

I'll just start with 2:

* Get back the full control over master effects, like we had on the original MicroBR !!
* Make it possible to use the BR80 as an interface to IOS devices. (That would be really great, and I guess a really good selling point for the device as well)

I know many more wishes/frustrations has been posted on other threads so come on Micro-People !! What do you want of changes ?

Choice of SRC for effects...I still think this was a serious omission for the "successor" to the MicroBR.

One request, that is the one request that probably is least likely to be possible : A better REVERB !!!!

Oh YES!

Better vocal COSMS - the BR80 was designed for guitar players IMO - not singers.

I agree it needs all these updates. I love my br-80 but been using it less.

I saw this and am wondering how Roland is even going to compete with something that is cheaper
and new. It`s been almost 4 years since the br-80 came out? WTF?

My wishlist includes all the above. Also, the eBand function is in dire need of upgrade. When slowing down a song, the digital artifacts are terrible, at times they mask what you are trying to hear. 256 bit and higher MP3 makes no difference. The other features of eBand could stand a tweak so they work better. As for the reverb, it is definitely NOT up to Roland standards.

When I bought mine, street price was $349USD, before its short comings were really known. At $249 they seem an OK price at best. It they above issues were addressed by Roland, the BR80 would be a STEAL!! Demand would have to increase as well as market share and Corporate profits. But I'm willing to bet that there is some bean counter at BOSS saying its not worth the expense to develop and push a new firmware upgrade.

Alas I suspect, we the fans of BOSS/ROLAND, will be ignored and eventually forced to strictly DAW or TASCAM. And most of us are aware that TASCAM could learn a thing or two about the desired features that BOSS no longer provides.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Unlike wives, you can never have too many Les Pauls.

A simple but big improovment would be to add a 'modifyer' key [perhaps reuse the stop button since its allready serving a similar task to skip back to start of track] to the MTR intreface so the jog wheel could be used to scroll up and down the track controls - having to press down 9 times to get to the bottom (V-tracks) is some of the worst user interface design I have ever come across [just sayin].

Oh and if I haven't used up all my wishes then the ability to apply effects when you bounce tracks so you can record a dry take and then basterdize the signal afterwards to your ears contentment instead of having to redo the track if you decide on a different effect. - I was considering getting around this using a cable to route the output back in through the auxilary to apply effects but unfortunately somebody in there infinate wisdom decided not to allow effects on aux input either!!!

Frankly I was pretty bummed out with the BR-80 when I found out this wasn't possible and I probably would have kept on looking at different products if I had of known in advance. :-\

I don't know about the BR-80 but the original Micro BR had a trick with its VALUE +/- buttons to rapidly move through values.

  • The value will continue changing if
you press and hold VALUE [-] [+]
  • The value will increase rapidly if you
hold down VALUE [+], then press
    and hold VALUE [-].
  • The value will decrease rapidly if you
hold down VALUE [-], then press
    and hold [+].

Perhaps the CURSOR buttons on the BR-80 behave in a similar way? Try holding down a cursor button instead of tapping it repeatedly. Try holding down a cursor button, then press and hold the cursor button for the opposite direction. I don't know if these techniques will work on a BR-80 but it's worth a try.
