Roland Stereo Mic

So these have been around for a little while now.  I'd love hear if any of you guys have one and how they're working out for you.  I just ordered  the cheap Sony(Ebay) for $4.99 & free shipping....couldn't pass that up.  You'd really think that the Boss mic would be pretty nice...it better be for $80! I can't seem to find the specs~SPL handling, ect.  It would be so nice to have a High-quality mic you could take with you and the MBR- I'm very interested myself Any feedback would be great.

The 3.5mm or 1/8in Mic Input is a new deal to me, but I'm interested in finding a high-quality external mic for the MBR- that just pops right in the mic input....something like these- Boss is probably the best bet.....anyone?

It's not something that pops right in, but I bought a Rode NT1a, You need a pre-amp with phantom power to run it, but what a fantastic mic.

I like the sony one better than that Roland/Boss or Olympia one you posted because it has a cable. It gives you more freedom of mic placement and gives you distance from the recorder so you dont record yourself pushing buttons on it.

Thanks J, I saw your earlier post on that mic and I checked out the website...I'm sure it would be a great mic!

Right now, (I'm sure this might change) I'm interested in something that pops right in though.  I'm a singer and guitar player, so I'm thinking it would be handy to have the onboard effects of the MBR & a nice mic and that's all~w/o any extra cords...Defenately something to consider though...Plus a few people here have had great results just with the onboard mic...I'm thinking an external mic would have to be better quality though....

I already have a few mics for recording at home or even live performances(if I really wanted to)....It's just the thought of taking the MBR everywhere I go with no extra baggage that intrigues me.

I'm about to buy a Rode M3.  It is a small condenser mic and it has a 9v battery inside (although you can run if off phantom power if you like).  All you need is the mic and a XLR to 1/8" jack and you are flying.  I even rang the people at Rode who confirmed that this combo would work well.  Like you, I don't want too much extra stuff like pre-amps.  That sort of gets in the way of the mobility of the unit.  Check it out at:

True, but you could get an extension cable for the Roland mic. Then you'd have the choice of using it attached as intended or separately with the cable. It's always nice to have a choice. There may be some situations where the convenience of having the mic attached might override other considerations.

I agree. What I'm dying to know however, is how the Roland/Boss mic compares to the Sony. The tricky thing is that because I bought my Sony mic on eBay for the ridiculous amount of $2 + shipping, I cant help but doubt if what I bought was a fake, defected or flawed in some way compared to the same Sony mic sold at retail stores (for $60+) 

With that said, when I compare that Sony mic to my new Audio Technica mic, the need to compare ends there as the AT mic has been perfect for my own needs and has single handedly solved my noise/distortion issues which i originally assumed was operator error/ignorance.
