Here's a cover of a DM album track (from A Broken Frame).  ABF was 'my' DM album - they went a bit off for me after that for a while (although they got better again later).  It has possibly the longest fade possible on a song.

I totally get where your coming from on the Broken Frame album divide. I love(d) that album. 1981 and 1982 were the absolutely pivotal years for me musically though. Japan, heaven 17, Visage, Human League etc etc. I went travelling around the USA in late 1990, and I couldn't believe how MASSIVE Depeche Mode were. It was quite a suprise to see them go to stadium mega-stardom. I remember when they played in Chichester Festival Theatre and my dad wouldn't give me a lift so I couldn't go.

Anyway, I digress.

I can feel the love in your covers. You have to understand these songs on a deeper level to get inside their DNA. You definitely have. Superb arrangement, tones and performance. Really love the subtle 'choir' layer.

Spot on detail and a real joy to listen to.

p.s. Would love to hear you do 'Leave in Silence' (my fave!).

Thanks Tim.  After I posted this I looked the album up on Wikipedea and was surprised that Martin Gore was quoted as saying it is their "worst album".  Leave in Silence is also one of my favorites, as is See You, which I covered many moons ago.

I remember most of the singles but never bought any DM albums so I don't remember this.  I know I keep harking on about it but you do an awesome job with synthy stuff.  Nice work Nick.

Oh man - fab synths. This is sublime.

So sympathetic. I'm really envious. Loads of space but it's not thin the vocal layers are incredible. Massively impressed with the production.

Come on, what have you used? What did you do? What's hooked up to what? Is your gear in a shed in New England?

Excellent production on this brother, those synths are synthalicious! I'm assuming it was done on your phone or pad???

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I love the idea of having a shed full of old gear in New England, but this was all GarageBand.  I get quite obsessive about getting the 'right' sound and I'm pleased that between GB and the other soft synths and drum machines I can usually get pretty close.

What I'm trying to do at the moment is find a more creative, left-side approach but keeping the attention to detail.

Thanks again for listening
