64Guitars

I hadn't visited VGuitarForums for a long while so I decided to have a look tonight. I noticed that they have a BR-80 board (also includes JS-8 and JS-10).

One topic I found especially interesting is the following which has two nice pictures of a BR-80's insides.

BR-80 users might want to download those two images in case they ever have to take their BR-80 apart.

Yes them circuit boards are crazy. Looks like it should be worth a million bucks.

In reading that thread the one guy says a factory reset will fix the cogwheel? I started having problems with mine
last year. I just used it still but it was a pain in the ass. Through time It eventually went back to normal for some reason
but now it`s acting up again. I`m guessing that if i factory reset, it will it erase my custom presets that i made?
I`ll check the manual if i can find it

I couldn't find anything in the manual that says exactly what a factory reset will do. My guess, based on other BR models, is that it will reset all internal settings, including the USER patch bank. The song patch banks on the memory card shouldn't be affected. However, just to be safe, I would backup the entire card before doing a factory reset. If you have any user patches you want to save, create a new song and copy each user patch to a song patch. Then backup the card. If the factory reset wipes the USER bank, you can later restore the patches from that song.

I noticed the Roland ESC2 chip in the photo and did a Google search for it. Apparently, it's a Digital Signal Processor and is the same one used in the flagship GT-100 effects processor.

"The under-the-hood secret behind the GT-100's incredible tone is the ESC2 DSP, a super-powerful digital signal processor developed by BOSS. Unlike the off-the-shelf chips used in competing gear, the ESC2 was built specifically for music applications—and COSM algorithms in particular—allowing BOSS engineers to leverage its power in ways that would be impossible with ready-made processors. ESC2 is also incredibly speedy, delivering a sixfold performance increase over the processors used in previous generations."
