Written and recorded by Sam Cooke in 1962, though this is based on The Animals' 1965 cover.

I recorded the piano, organ, and drums to MIDI tracks in Rosegarden using my AKAI MPK25 MIDI keyboard controller. This is the first project I've done in Rosegarden. I chose it because it has good MIDI sequencing capabilities. It also supports audio tracks. Unfortunately, it's not that great for editing and mixing audio tracks and there's no audio export capability for MIDI tracks. So I routed the MIDI tracks into Ardour and saved them as individual WAV files which I then imported into Audacity along with my audio tracks for guitar and bass which were recorded on the BR-864, and the vocal tracks from oldrottenhead, henwrench and Geir. I did my editing and mixing in Audacity.

Thanks to Oldrottenhead, henwrench and Geir for doing the vocals. Great job, guys!

Nice version guys - used to play this when I was in a soul band a few years back. Not heard it since then but brings back memories of my brief semi-pro career !

Sounded great on my phone, looking forward to hearing this properly.

Oh this is fabulous - loved the swing* arrangement, main vox and backing - come to think of it, I loved it all!

*Sorry maybe lilt would have been a better choice of words than swing - in singing terms it's got bounce which is very important. I did realise it's not Glenn Miller does Sam Cooke!

Wow! Someone dares to cover the great Sam Cooke!!!!

And you did great stuff! That bass is a killer! It put me a smile on my face!

James, you are a great singer! Is it my impression or your original avatar (the mummy/ orh) actually looks like Michael Bolton?

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.
