Helping Ashley (Mazz's boyfriend) with his course work - never had homework like this when I was at school!

I saw Albert Lee at the weekend (was the youngest in the audience LOL) - and he opened with this - had to give it a go!!!

Lovely full sound. A really strong version. Ashley's vocals sound straight from the heart as if he'd written them himself and that violin is a classy touch. Great work!

One of the great Greenday songs.
Very nice. Like the violin especially, who played that?
Good vocals too.
Very clean recording, particularly like the vocal tone, do you use compression?

Thanks all for the comments - I always appreciate the time and effort of listening and commenting.

Violin was me :-) Learned to play the violin at age 9 - the guitar came later in the teenage years, it was much cooler :-)

Vocals were recorded with a BR-1600 vocal patch (patch 1), which does have compression set on the way in. Plus I used a valve mike, which I believe has a degree of natural compression (the SE2200T).

The final track was mastered - which always thickens up the sound (clean compression I think).

In retrospect, my guitar playing is a little messy, and perhaps the whole thing could do with being slightly slower and less rushed - plus I possibly should have added some more fiddle. I'm very pleased with the 3 fiddle start :-) But hey-ho, you live and learn :-)

Nicely done.  Well sung.  Love the fiddle.  Once you get going, it builds to a nice relaxed feel with an excellent finish.  I've heard and performed this song live many times.  This version would stack up to any of those (far better than most).  I can hear the applause now.
