iPad ?

Greetings from DC everyone. Did some recording the other day with a buddy in Richmond the other night and there is a great Grand  piano in the lobby I plan on recoding with tonight. My buddy is going to get an iPad and wants To set up garage band. What would he need to record his electric piano or his keyboard? Does it connect to computer easily? I guess I want to know how to set him up to collaborate with me. I'll thank you in advance since I'm pretty much in lurker mode til I get home.
