Thank you folks!  I'm glad you're digging my take on this Hendrix classic and digging the Weiss tone.  It's just not something you hear that often [sadly].  I was lucky to snag one of the old ones before the prices got really high.  I got to see David Lindley play his at the Cellar Door in DC.  That put the bug in my ear, tho is was 15 yrs before I finally landed one.

QuoteWas the Weissenborn actually made in 1928 ? Could you tell us a bit about it ?

It's a real 1928 Weiss.  Got on eBay almost 10 yrs ago from a man in Ohio who played it regularly.  He definitely knew his stuff.  It's got a couple of dings, but the tone is rich.   A lot of the tone comes from having a hollow neck, but not all Weiss's were built that way. This guitar is light as a feather.

The entire guitar is koa wood w Brazilian rosewood fretboard.  This is a Style 2 so it has 'rope' inlay around the soundhole, but not around the perimeter of the guitar [Style 3 [front] or Style 4 [front and back].

This is an excellent short article on Weissenborn and Hawaiian guitars.

Great sound. You really make that old guitar sing.

Damn, this sounds good! Real good!

Instantly reminds me of a soundtrack for a western movie.

This instrument speaks from the past, far into the future.

Excellent work!

DD this is a gem of a cover! I am so drawn to that open tuning slide sound and you execute it with style. I've been playing around with standard tuning slide for the last couple months once in a while but those open tunings just sound so powerful. Thanks for sharing this! :D Hope to hear lots more from you.
