John came over last night so we could practice for the gig that will apparently never happen. We tried 4-5 new tunes, and I thought this was a bit of a departure both song-wise as well as with regard to production. John will be irked that I posted this first and only take because he wanted to get more familiar with it and how he wanted to phrase vocally.  I guess until he gets an account, there's not much he can say.

So there...

Don't know who wrote this tune, but I'm mostly familiar with the version by Etta James.

Peace.

Sucks to be John! I suppose he could get a little more artistic respect from you if he actually joined... :)

After I pressed play, I couldn't even type, I just had to listen with my undivided attention. This is stunning all the way around. Damn, this is good.

I can't wait until he reads that.  I've been trying to get him to join.

Thanks.

Excellent!!!  Maybe John should quit while he's ahead...don't know how he could sing it much better

John has great god given tone but his phrasing and vocal control is what really impresses.

Loved the simple backup lonely guitar with great dynamic attack and the depth and emotion of this recording.

Standing ovation from me!

Wasn't expecting those backwards guitar bits! This is indeed hypnotic, and it's a pleasure to listen.

Thanks, guys.  Looks like we finally got a gig (with an actual date) on Thursday, March 8th.  Now we need to make sure we have three hours of music (yikes).
