The song is a parody of the sentimentality of the Christmas season, written the year I was born. It's a sad story, but it ends well :D

Here's a rough translation (just fixed the worst mistakes mr Google did)

It was Christmas Eve in the woods. Far from the world's hustle and bustle
was a red small cottage, rather shabby and poor
There in the cottage, which was covered with the white Christmas-snow
There lay the old mother and chomped on her last piece of bread

Through cracked, frozen window panes the Christmas-star peeks in
at the salty Christmas-tears at the old man's old cheeks
and by the hearth, where it smouldered in the last tyriflis (resinous pinewood chip)
Sat the old husband and dreamed of an olden Christmas pig .

Only poverty was to find on the old's Christmas table
All the Christmas food they owned was a musty pork rind
And in the ceiling the lamp was glowing like a Myklish  ruby
where the burned their last drops of Christmas kerosine

All that was heard this Christmas Eve of chrismas sounds and song
were the old ones sad Christmas sobbing and Christmas sigh and weep
Over the woods peace brooded, only bullfinches sat and swore
in a Christmas sheaf which turned out to be from last year
----
Suddenly, by  sleigh bells, the Christmas peace is broken
They get sillier and sillier , but silents to the end .........
And on the path up to the cottage, sounds happy Christmas Steps * * * * *
Then tap on the door, there are someone who want to enter.

But alas, it was not Santa Claus, as one would expect
There in the doorway full of Christmas beers and Christmas spirit was:
a person with fur, America briefcase, glasses and cigar
Plus a Christmas lump in the throat, while he whispered: Mom and Dad!
-
It was the oldest son in the house and the family's black sheep
whom no one had heard from in twenty four years.
But now he stood there and Christmas-sang a Christmas melody
as he opened the Christmas bags with Christmas presents in.

It was a Christmas tree with Christmas lights and Christmas pudding with fat
and old ones ate and enjoyed themselves, and wept a Christmas drop
And the aforementioned Christmas tears trickled all over again
when they both got new sets of teeth as a present
---
Silence descended on the room, broken by chrismas burps and groans
from the Christmas-happy old ones and the Christmas-sent son
But when presented at the Christmas table, Christmas drink and smoke
the old mother did a Halling throw so that the bedstraws whirled

However, while the Christmas night falls , with magic and mystery
over the Christmas joy, Christmas finery and Christmas romance
we let the Christmas song stop, the old ones' Christmas Eve
turned out exactly as we expected: It became Christmas after all!

Beautiful.  The voice sounds like someone who would be swinging an axe... not a guy who plays the axe so nicely.  It's amazing how you just keep cranking them out.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Wow! This is fantastic. You have such a great voice and your singing is full of expression and character. For example, I love the "Mor og far" at 2:47. Wonderful!

I found it impossible to read the translated lyrics while listening to you sing in Norwegian, so I read them after; more as a poem than a song. It's a good Christmas story. I didn't know what a "Halling" was so I looked it up at Wikipedia.

You sure have an ear for details 64G !! "Mor og far" (mother and father) is spoken in my best Norwegian-as-spoken-of-a-man-long-time-ago-emigrated-to-america voice ;D (and I've actually heard a few of those in the year I lived in the US 42 years ago ;) )

Halling is worth checking out. Both the dance and the music.

I did learn something new reading the link. I have of course seen the head-spin that Halling-dancers do, but had not made the connection to the break-dancer's performance of the same thing.
