BR800 UPDATE -SD CARD

Started by Analogheart, December 14, 2011, 09:17:37 PM

Greetings All,
This is my first post on this forum & I am in the process of updating my new Boss BR800 to v.1.10. My confusion is with regard to the SD card which is used for this purpose.

In the BR800 update manual it states & I quote;

2."Use a computer to copy the 4 update files onto the Root Directory of a SD card"

Then on 10. it says "Use pc to delete these 4 updated files from the SD card"

Does this mean that these files should be uploaded/delated form the one & the same SD (1GB) card (or a generic SD card installed) which came with the unit?

OR

Use another SD card to upload these files onto BR800? In short, a seperate SD card?

I've successfully formatted & installed a 32GB generic SD card which is recognized by my BR800 & seems to be working. It's just I am rather confused by the wording...so any help or advice from you guys to clear this confusion would be of immense help!

Thanks in advance

The four update files are only temporary. That's why step 10 says to delete them. The update process will copy data from those files into the BR's internal flash memory where the system software is stored. Once the update has successfully completed, the files are no longer needed.

I think Roland recommends using the card that came with your recorder because some other SD cards have compatibility problems, especially with system software before version 1.10 (ie; the version you're upgrading from). However, if you've got another SD card which you're confident is working reliably with your BR-800, you can use that for the update. The update will work from any card as long as the BR can read and write to it reliably.

Whichever card you use, it's a good idea to make a backup of it before you begin the update, just in case anything should go wrong (not that it will, but better safe than sorry).

Yes, you can use another SD card. The reason for deleting any firmware on a card is that the recorder will continue to 'look at' the firmware each time it's turned on.
