Can Sonar Duck tracks like Audacity?

Audacity has a great function that reduces track B anytime track A has a signal.
Just as if you reduced the volume on your guitar while you sing and then bring it back up when you don't
It allows for a clearer mix and a lot more volume.
Can Sonar do this?

MGM - Not sure what version of Sonar you have, but in the X1 Power book, 'ducking' is covered on pages 345/346. So the answer is Yes!  ;)

64 I tried the example with no luck.
I suspect they skip over something they thought was "understood"
I imported the example ok.
I hung up at:
"When a plug-in that has a sidechain input is added to a project, that input is exposed to all of the other tracks. So, lets right-click track 2 (the hi-hat track) and choose "Insert Send." Select "Sonitus:fx Gate (Side Input)-Guitar" from the list. You will need to click the little box next to the new send to enable it (see image below)."

When I right click track 2 and choose "Insert send" I get a bunch of choices but none of them are Sonitus fx gate.
They are about where and what type of send such as left, right, stereo, master, subgroup 1, effects send 1, or new stereo bus, insert send assistant.
I chose effect send 1 for lack of understanding.
Then i opened the "I" view and found the sonitus gate thru the fx window. Now not sure if I am off track already.
I clicked "Post" to highlight it.
and opened the Sonitus gate.
It does look like the image at least.
I moved the fader to -20 as suggested and played the horrible noise.
I heard the cymbal and guitar but did not know what the "keying" was that I was supposed to hear and heard no difference if it was on or off.
I upped the input and at some point the cymbal simply disappeared which is not useful of course.
I assumed the guitar would fade when the cymbal was playing?
Any help?
I must have missed something.

I don't have the FX he has in the video, I assume, because I don't have producer, only studio.
That means I can't duplicate what he does even if i did understand it.
I can install compressors on the tracks but can't get the result.
Do you put a compressor on both tracks? How does it know which is which?

Strange. According to this chart, Sonitus fx:gate is included with SONAR
 X1
Studio. It's part of the Sonitus: FX Suite.

I can't speak from experience on this as I have none. But my interpretation is that, given track 1 with guitar and track 2 with voice, the compressor is connected to track 1 only. The compressor has two types of inputs - primary and sidechain. By connecting track 2 (voice) to the sidechain input of track 1, the compressor acts on track 1 according to the varying levels of track 2.

Have you read the sidechaining section of the SONAR X1 Reference Guide? You'll find it on pages 842-846.

Perhaps the reason you can't find the Sonitus fx:gate is that you haven't inserted it into the track. See step 1 at the top of page 844, and "Adding effects" on page 217.

I did insert the Sonitus fx gate but could not do it the way they described.
So I wasn't sure I set it up right or how it was to be used and on what track.
Upate!
I've been trying to get all my info from the guide that came with the program and the online help from within the program and from you tube videos.
I've just now down loaded the full "SONAR X1 Reference Guide pdf" from online by googling it from your post.
This should help!!
I assumed the program's help would have it all (and why wouldn't it?) and did wonder where folks were getting stuff from huge page numbers that I couldn't find.
Sorry for wasting your time.
I WILL get this.

MGM - Got Sonar X1 Power from Amazon UK, about £25. I'm sure it will be available where you are. Good luck with your quest.
