As the title suggests, I am looking for a passive soundhole pickup 10 cm app. I need something that is good for strumming and can hold it's own with a backing band, electric guitar, bass and drums. I will probably put it through one of the valve amps or PA? The guitar is a Yamaha FG700s  http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/guitars/acoustic/6-string-acoustic/fg700s-18550/review
It's a great guitar that I play everyday it never goes out of tune, I have strung it with 10's as I like a twangy tone
but now it may need some live action in the covers band, so any suggestions? used, new but not expensive.
I have never used a pickup for acoustic so have no idea where to start, I would want one with a female jack so I can connect to a lead as I get the feeling some of the leads attached are not long enough.

I asked the same question about a year ago. You might want to take a look at this thread:

For acoustic sound hole pickups, you're better through the PA or even a bass amp.

There are some nice piezo pickups that you can glue under the bridge and replace the strap button with a strap button/jack socket combo.  From $80 on the stewmac websites

I bought an EMG http://www.emgpickups.com/products/index/61/125/3 and installed it into an old Tradition Dreadnaught after trying out several passive, piezo and soundhole pickups. I currently plug it into my 1978 master model 100 watt marshall stack. I also play it through the PA sometimes, but I have a pretty extensive rack with preamp and effects processing which really add to my sound.

I have 2 other acoustics with those under the bridge piezo pickups and in order to even get close to having them loud enough to keep up with the band (through PA or any amps) I have to use a sound hole plug which totally kills the tone. This is fine though if you are in a multiple guitarist band, but I am in a 3 piece and i'm the only guitar so I need a very full sound. The best part about EMG's is how it really allows you to add dynamics to your playing and everything gets through the pickup.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone tried The Woody, Seymour Duncan, single coil? It looks quite good and has good reviews.

I picked up an L.R Baggs M1. Very nice sounding to me. A little more pricey but worth it.

I heard Fishman pickups are great too!

Now i just have to play and learn good tone with EQ settings.
