I've been in doubt if to post this one in the "Covers" or in the "Originals" section...in fact, even if it's an arrangement for acoustic guitar of three traditional Irish tunes, I don't think these three tunes have been put together in a set until now...for those not very "inside" Irish music, it's very common put 3 or 4 tunes together giving the new "set" a name. So, I've decided that this will be "The Songcrafters Set"!  :D

The tunes are:

The South Wind
The Drunken Wagoner
Garryowen

I've been playing these ones for a very long time. The first two are my hommage to the great John Renbourn; I've learned Garryowen from the recording by another great guitar player, Martin Simpson.

This recording is someway very special for me, by a technical point of view: after so many years using digital recorders, for the first time I've used only a digital workstation: the guitar is a Seagull Performer CW Mini-Jumbo, going into a L.R.Baggs Para Acoustic D.I., and from there (via an Edirol M-16DX Digital Mixer) to Adobe Audition CS5 (Mac Version). Guitar tuning: DGDGBE.

I'm very glad both for the sound and because I've found very easy, and even more "natural" this new workflow. I need to experiment more, of course, but my first sensations are absolutely positive.

Enjoy!  :)

I love this.  This is my goal to learn to play like this, and its an incredible amount of work.  The seagull is recorded very well. Very well played.  If i work hard all winter I may be able to do something like this in the spring, that is my goal.  You have fired up my resolve here with this post.  Fantastic stuff.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

wow, bowled away, I would give several limbs (and the wife) away to be able to play like that! And a fantastic recording, very clean and resonant...just fabulous. I also know a few wee people across the sea who would gladly buy you a pint (or 20) of guiness to listen to you play...
great!

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Really lovely.

I could have this on repeat all day.
