OK I know I vowed not to buy any more cards but couldn't resist a bmcdigital 16gb class6 SDHC (by Toshiba) seen as their 8gb card works.
It didn't ! :-[
Contacted Roland again, and while they were great on the other 2 issues-  Importing SMF's in time signatures other than 4/4 and exporting eband user songs- they have been strangely quiet on the 'drive busy error'.

It would be great if everyone could post working cards as we might be on our own.

The test is to record TWO 5 minute songs in 'live rec' mode and TWO 5 minute songs in eband mode in any order.
If you do not get 'drive busy error' I reckon we're good although the only science behind this is our tests!

Here's what I have as working cards:

TOSHIBA 2GB SD  Original card (No Class printed):
SD-M02G
1150 WH0603G
MADE IN JAPAN

TOSHIBA 4GB SDHC Class 2 :
SD - M04G
1021 WG1535G
MADE IN JAPAN

BMCDigital (by Toshiba) 8GB SDHC Class 6 :
SD-K08G
1005 UK5135 G
MADE IN JAPAN

I contacted Roland on October 6th regarding incompatible cards that were on their compatibility list. This is the longest I have been without a reply from them. I can't seem to find BMCDigital here in the states. As a matter of fact, higher capacity SD cards from Toshiba are very difficult to find.

Here's some links for BMC. Trouble is there's no real way of knowing whether one BMCDigital card will be the same spec as another.I am in contact with them and have asked if they can assure us of the same Toshiba product codes for their 8gb SDHC cards.

Yep, Tosh cards do seem very hard to find. Big in Japan. ;D

Another thing I noticed is that 16gb cards take an age to boot, create new songs and switch modes.
My plan now is stock up on 8gb cards. Back them up, but treat them as 'tape' rather than reuse.

Also tried 'optimizing' as an experiment and the BR-80 froze.
No damage done but I had to remove batteries while powered up and it scared the *hit out of me so no more of that malarkey !

Hi simont,

I hardly ever use LIVE REC or eBand modes on the BR-80 (I'm an MTR man, myself :) ), but I decided to take your challenge anyway: I recorded two 5 minute songs in LIVE REC mode, and two more 5 minute songs recorded in eBand mode.

I got zero 'Drive Busy' errors in this test. I haven't seen any of those errors in MTR mode yet, either - although I've only done a handful of songs on the BR-80 in total.

My card:
32GB Transcend Class 10 SDHC
Made in Taiwan

Thanks cuthbert.
Good to hear you have a successful card. There have been no reports of issues in MTR mode.

The annoying thing is WE have to keep buying cards to find find out. I notice Roland give an extensive list of compatible cards for the MBR. The same treatment would be appreciated.
Mind you all they have to is follow us!! ;D

Cuth, It must take a lifetime to boot up and to switch modes with a 32GB card! I get bored to tears with an 8 or 16....

64 mentioned in the other thread that most of the BR updates improve the SD compatibility.

Could you post the part number when you get a chance?

Out of interest, how DO you find the boot and mode switch times?

QuoteHi Simon,
I am still awaiting a reply from Japan on this one.

.... so the more info we can give them the better.

Who's got a working card?

Unlike wives, you can never have too many Les Pauls.
