Is this forum really that hostile that such a extreme measure would need to be taken?

Quote from: Gnasty on August 08, 2011, 03:54:03 PMWouldn`t a great solution to this be for the person who created the song or discussion post have control and  be able to delete whatever post he or she doesn`t like? It also cuts  down on Administration having to get involved.

First, when you say "the person who created the song or discussion post" I assume that you mean the person who created the topic. A post is an individual message within a topic. It can be the first message of the topic or it can be a reply. They're all posts.

Every member already has the ability to delete their own posts, except for the first post of a topic. However, no member has the ability to delete another member's posts, and that's as it should be. I'm sure that none of us wants to spend time replying to posts only to have someone come along and delete them. No member except an administrator can remove a topic since doing so deletes all of the posts in that topic. Obviously, giving the original poster of a topic the ability to remove the topic would mean that he could delete the posts of other members and that would be wrong.

If a member posts a new topic, then changes his/her mind and wants it removed, they can ask an admin to remove it. If no one has replied to the topic, we will gladly remove it. However, if there are replies, then the original poster no longer "owns" the topic as other members have a stake in it too. We can't remove the topic unless all of the posters in the topic agree, or there's a very good reason to remove it. For example. if the topic was generally offensive, we might remove it. However, it's more likely that we'd just remove or edit the offensive posts rather than remove the whole topic.

I trained myself to be illiterate, so I wouldn't be able to read hostile and/or annoying messages.
I can't even read what I just wrote. It works!
