Unlike other BRs, the BR-800 provides no simple way to check the firmware version. However, when you start the update process, the current version number is displayed along with the new version number. If they're the same, you can press the BR-800's [EXIT] button to abort the update without changing anything.

Also, if you have version 1.10, it displays the version number in the lower right of the screen when you first turn the BR-800 on. But I don't think earlier versions displayed the version number. So, if it's blank below "BR-800" on boot-up, then you've probably got an older version.

How exactly do you go about updating the firmware?  I just got the BR 800 and I believe the installation disc states that it is version 1.00.  I guess I may as well be up to date.

Are there DETAILED instructions posted anywhere on a Boss/Roland site or anywhere else.

when you download the update from the Roland site there's a quite detailed text-file included that describes the update-procedure.

Thanks Geir,

I just noticed the line to the update in the OP.  I've downloaded the info...

It mentions using the SD card that came with the unit...I can do that, but I've been using a 16gb card that I just got...Will I just use the original card to transfer the update to the BR800?  can I then swap it back out for the 16gb card...I don't have anything of significance on the 16gb card...I'm guessing that I should reformat the 16gb card when I first us it after the update?

Also, Is the root directory the "main" roland" file on the card (If I click on this file there are 2 subfiles labled "BRo" and "sketch"

Many Thanks!

Mark

Geir

the root folder is where the roland folder is not the roland folder itself. I used the original roland card for update but switched back to the 8GB card I used before the upgrade, and I did not reformat it before using it. Works fine

Same here. it went from 1.00 to 1.10 (Altho it said 1.06 to 1.10 during the process) and now shows the 1.10 on the boot screen.

Mine showed exactly the same thing.

Do you know if the Wave Converter download on the Boss/Roland site is the same as the one supplied on the disc that came with the unit?  It says it's Wave Converter 3.0 which I think is the same??

Not sure if it's the same as on the disc (I don't have a BR-800), but 3.0 is the latest and greatest for the new BR models, as far as I know.  If you use the wrong version, you should get an error from BRWC stating that the disk cannot be found. I don't expect you'll get this error using the 3.0 version of the software.
