Got together with John to figure out some new tunes. Forgive the expletive in the beginning. I edited it out at first, but then thought it represented the fun and slightly inebriated nature of the evening. I overdubbed a borrowed Ukelele Bass on it (uncanniest instrument I've played in a while). If it sounds like we're grappling with the tune, we are.  John had heard it twice and was reading off a lyric sheet, and I was reading chord charts through beer goggles. The simple bass line is really a budget superglue of sorts on this track.

Thirsty in the Rain
Peter Rowan

There's an eagle and he keeps on flying
over the mountains capped in white snow.
In green valleys, lonesome people trying
so hard to tell each other what they think they know.
With greedy hands they take each other's money
Just to buy back his helpless pains.

In this land of flowing milk and honey
we wander thirsty in the rain.
Thirsty in the rain.

Just like that eagle, now my soul is flying
over the valleys in the crimson morning sky.
And there don't seem to be no use in struggling so hard
and there don't seem to be no reasons why.
Well i must fight you for the rich man's money
so I can buy back his helpless pains.

Seems so useless and somehow funny,
to be thirsty in the rain.
Thirsty in the rain.

Fare thee well, now my own true lover,
my face you will never see it no more.
But there is one promise that is given
that I will meet you on that shiny golden shore.
Golden shore, love where the eagle soars
so high above the fruitful plain.

I'm the same friend that you knew when
we wandered thirsty in the rain.
Thirsty in the rain.
Thirsty in the rain.
Thirsty in the rain.

It's a slimline Ovation, running direct into a recorder. I went a little nuts compressing the acoustic signal. I think I have some very slight chorus on it courtesy of my latest bout of G.A.S. After coveting one for may years, I found a used TC Electronics chorus/flanger.

After borrowing the ukelele bass for a week, I must say I think I may want one.  It is nutty the tone that comes out of that tiny thing.  It has very little sustain, and it sounds almost like an upright to me. Cool item.  Here is a link.

Thanks for listening.
