BR-800, Issues with the BR Series Wave Converter Issues - MAC

Well I finally went out and bought the BR-800 today  ;D sweet little device but I am having an issue I can't seem to resolve.  Whenever I try to open the BR Wave Converter and select the Boss_BR-800 as the drive (on my new MacbookPro), I keep getting an error that says "Not BR Series Memory Card".  It is the original card.  I tried formatting the card, tried a different card...it just doesn't seem to work and I keep getting the same error message.

However, it works fine on my Windows 7, 64 bit machine (desktop).  It's pretty frustrating because I will use this feature a lot and I want to use it on my MacbookPro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the latest version of BR Wave Converter (v3.00)? The Mac version is here:

http://cms.rolandus.com/assets/media/zip/br_wcmac_v300.zip

Does your Macbook Pro have OS X 10.4.3 or later?

Can you view the files and folders of your BR-800's memory card from the Mac's file manager?

Yes (3.0)
Yes (10.6.7)
Yes, I can view the files from the OS

I made sure it also has the 1.06 firmware on it.  I could 't find anywhere to check what version was already there so I ran through the process of upgrading the firmware and it shows you in that process what version you have and what you are upgrading to...both were 1.06.

Thanks.

Does BR Wave Converter work if you put the SD card in the Macbook's SDXC slot instead of connecting the BR-800?

No, I get the same error  ???  I have 2 different SD cards (one of them being the original) and I have formatted them both and neither one will read in the BR Converter even if I plug it directly into the Card slot.

Thanks.

So it's not the BR-800 that's the problem then. The BR Wave Converter expects certain folders and files to exist on the memory card (/ROLAND, /ROLAND/BR0, /ROLAND/BR0/DISKINF2.BR0, etc). If any of these folders or files are missing or in the wrong location, the BR Wave Converter gives you the "Not BR series memory card" error.

Have you renamed any of these folders or files? The BR Wave Converter might be case sensitive on the Mac. So, if you renamed the "ROLAND" folder to "Roland", it might work in Windows (which is not case sensitive), but not on the Mac.

You said you "formatted" the memory cards. Do you mean you "initialized" them in the BR-800? Or did you format them on your computer? The latter won't work. You need to initialize the cards in the BR-800. This will create all of the needed folders and files that the BR Wave Converter looks for.

Try this:

1) Create a /ROLAND folder in the root directory of your Macbook's hard drive.

2) Download the following zip file and extract it to an empty directory. Then copy the contents of its ROLAND folder to the empty ROLAND folder on your Macbook.

http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/dld.cfm?PRODUCT=BR-800&iRcId=55162210&dsp=1

3) Disconnect the BR-800 from your computer and eject any SD cards from the Macbook. Then start BR Wave Converter. It should recognize the /ROLAND folder on your Macbook as a valid BR series memory card (It can't tell the difference between a memory card and a hard drive. It only looks for the key folders and files).

OK, so doing as you suggested worked.  It reads the data off the hard drive and shows it in the BR wave Converter.  However, if I copy the same contents to the SD card and try to read it through the card reader on the MAC, it gives the error.

Any thought?  Thanks 64.

They call it "format" on the BR-800...Yes I did format it on the BR-800.

Thanks.

It seems like the Macbook is reporting the folder and file pathnames in a way that BR Wave Converter doesn't accept. BR Wave Converter expects the ROLAND folder to be in the root directory of the drive. If OS X mounts the BR-800 or the SD card as /media/usb/ROLAND, for example, and reprorts it that way to BR Wave Converter, then BR Wave Converter won't recognize it. It has to be reported as /ROLAND.

Call Roland tech support and see if they have any ideas. I'm sure that other BR-800 owners with Macs must have had the same issue, so maybe Roland has a simple fix.
