Black Mary

Hi there. Just found out about this great site. My music is quite Heavy Southern rock/metal style. I've just been buying a BR600 after getting my appetite for music back after 7 years not playing at all. I needed to upgrade to digital because my old recording gear (Tascam cassette 4 track) was causing problems after so long unused, though it served me well since 1990. Anyway, that's me, briefly. Looking forward to listening to all this new stuff I've just been made aware of.
Cheers

Hi there.  I had a Yamaha version of your Tascam casette 4 track.  Fantastic piece of kit for the time.  Of course everything just disappeared in hiss if you tried to bounce anything more than once.  I still have some songs I recorded on it - but now I think about it, I don't think I have a cassette player to play them on.

Probably for the best.

Anyway - welcome.

Welcome, finally, Black Mary.  You already have a glossary entry named after you, but I haven't properly introduced myself.

And I still have a Ross 4x4--a lesser known, but similar 4-track recorder.  I also still have my Roland TR-505 drum machine that I used when I was using the 4x4.

I still have all of those working cassettes too. I'm thinking, as an experiment, of resurrecting one of my old songs, using all of the original tracks, by dumping them into digital files, and also dumping the drum data via MIDI into Garage Band.

The idea of it sounds like bringing a dinosaur back to life from it's bones and bits of DNA.
