Been a while for me. My daughter is spending the summer in Richmond, VA & D.C. & i helped her move last month & wrote this in the hotel on e night, Finally pulled it out to produce a month later. I added 3 tracks of percussion & 1 handbell track all from my Roland Handsonic. The main track is a live Merlin & vocal track all done on the BR80.
1 Merlin/vocals (stereo)
3 percussion (mono)
1 handbells(mono)

She Gets What She Wants
written & performed by Hook
I hope she's right
I know she's smart
& she gets what she wants

I hope she's right
I trust her
instincts

It's almost as if
her feet dont touch the ground

I've learned that she's
gonna do her thing
& she might not listen at first

she's almost always right
It's almost as if her feet don't touch the ground

I hope she's right
I know she's smart
& she get's what she wants

Lovely tribute to your daughter, Mr. Hook.

Love the sound of the Merlin (is it in standard dulcimer tuning?) and the hand percussion - reminds me a bit of early Velvets, in the modal tuning and use of non-standard percussion. And it's all topped off with a touching vocal and fatherly lyrics.

Beautifully done.

It's great to hear a new one from you Hook! Daughters can be difficult but always a blessing. As a father you'll always worry but hope for the best. Thanks to Cuthbert I now know that the Merlin is a dulcimer. I thought it might be a back packer guitar. Excellent words and vocals!

Just beautiful. That dulcimer and the percussion gel so well together, especially love the tabla. Cool emotive lyrics along with the laid back vocal that works great. Something very special about this track.

Yes it is standard tuning in D. The Merlin is basically a Mountain Dulcimer turned into a guitar. This one was my buddy Justin's in Richmond, VA. I had to fly home to Tampa and opted to not travel w/my ukulele...iT was weird, so I borrowed his Merlin... and his has a pick up!.
So I have 3 other songs I wrote on the Merlin using effects I don't get to use on my acoustic Merlin. More to come.
Rock on!

Cool song Hook.  Love a bit of tabla. I had to look up what a merlin is.  Works great here in your hands.

I can totally empathise with the sentiments here.  I felt almost bereaved when my little girl went to university in Lancaster (about 200 miles from my home).  What neither she nor my wife had told me was that she had already arranged that her second year would be at on exchange at Macquarie University in Sydney Australia.  The other side of the planet.  I was not happy.  She knew what she was doing - but dad's are meant to worry.
