I wrote this back in 2010 and the original version is the very first song I posted here on May 13 of that year. I've always been fond of this song and took the opportunity to remake it with more up to date gear.  I also re arranged it a bit.  So here is the updated version with a better Wurlitzer 200A electric piano model, a tenor sax solo and a horn & string session.  You can check out the original 2010 version in my personal jukebox.  It's the very first entry, so it's not hard to find (Maybe Ted could bump it up if he's interested enough). Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
How carelessly you wound me and how easily I bleed
Is it a question of your cruelty or an answer to my need?
I'm staring in a mirror not liking what's become of me
And every time I try to fight the less of you I see
It's all in time but never rhymes

Sadistically you call me and masochistically I'm there
and other than abusing me again I fail to see why you even care
Not like you even noticed how many times I was trying to be
something you look upon with a value. Someone you've come to actually need

Not much to show. So many lies you're dealin'
Don't want to know but only time will heal me now

There was something that you said once that stays inside my mind
A long hard way of living makes it hard to trust my kind
You never spelt out what you meant. You never clarified
the kind you thought I was back then
so the pain could not subside
(Who'd know it?)

How recklessly you use me and how defenselessly I stand
I wish there was a way to leave you now. I cannot meet with your demands
Still, there's something that I cling to. It's just a thought that never goes
But it never will make sense to me. Living and lying, I suppose

Why would you care? So many times I've told you
Doesn't seem fair but only time will heal me now.

The piano, sax, horns and strings sound great John! I like these lyrics and you sing them very well. Overall a great song and a top shelf mix! I'll have to give the 2010 version a listen now.

I remember listening to this song once creeping around the site. I really like the idea of revisiting old songs and rearranging them and bettering the production. This one definitely has that special touch of your songwriting. Lovely wurtlizer sound!

Lovely song, John and so very nicely arranged with great sounding instrumentation. Everything so tastefully placed in the mix and great vocal melodies.

This is really great. I've been listening to this on repeat while walking the dogs and it works day, or night. The arrangement is constantly evolving and the melodies are strong. I especially enjoyed the interplay between the instruments and the vocals are to the point too.

Great stuff!

It is a great song, I love the horn section in this. Lovely quirky little sax runs too. This flows really well and a very inventive and melodic vocal. Another lovely tune John.
