I'm not sure if this would fit the New Gear Fest? That Poly-800 is used prominently here, and was the main reason i did this :)

Anyway i tried to go for the soft late 70's - early 80's "French" sound with this.

Everything is played live except the drums that were programmed (with flaws) and bassline so i was able to play with the filters and stuff while it played.

Instruments are:
Yamaha DX7, Yamaha RX5 (drum machine), Korg MS-20 and Korg Poly-800. No Vsti's were used, or anything fancy like that.

The lyrics are in finnish with some "french" words thrown in. I apologize for putting you thru this :D

There might be a special version of this coming, but it's still a work in progress so we'll see how that goes.

The original version is by Serge Gainsbourg. Sung as a duet with Jane Birkin (or Brigitte Bardot in the early version).

well sir, You got my interest peaked on this..

after all some heavy breathing from Jane Birkin may remind me of that section of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon where the female vocalist essentially goes into a cosmic orgasm kind of sound...

controversy?  nah

now to your song... spacey, trippy, fun, ice cream truck music like...
arcade?  yeah...cool sounds and I like the vocals

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I really how well you can get around synths... and all digital formats for that matter...
it is an excellent skill and very talented person you are... then for fun you can lay down the strings too... (not on this one)..
and you sound like Jim Morrison.  I think he never died but moved to Finland

It can qualify for the New Gear festival (although it's in the Originals category, covers are usually allowed as long as the festival choice does not specify it should be an original song).

p.s., I'm also a Gainsbourg fan and this is a tres cool cover.

excellent Stephen

Zoltan I listened to your version on SC and it's really very good, I did a test with my voice but it's not very convincing and in any case not better than your version in Finnish/French so I decline the invitation ... but always ready for another collaboration with you ;)

Hi Zoltan,
Lovely, and this is my first listen to this tune.
Very relaxing and full of love and emotions.
Enjoying your version very m much!
Thanks for this beauty!

Sorry for the bump... BUT would someone want to sing this in english? I did it, but it first became a celebration for "self-loving" (as i did both the Gainsbourg & Birkin parts without thinking further) which resulted into something that sounded more like self-abuse :D

So i was thinking if there's a brave soul who would like to maybe try it out...

There's an english version by Mick Harvey so it's not french only invitation. I know finnish sounds horrible, but at least you're not able to tell what i'm singing (well, most of you) :)

I was typing the above comment while you were posting yours, and it seems my comment regarding spandex gloves may not have been too far off the path.........and I was referencing SteveM above comment for the ice cream truck visuals........kinda scary really.........anyhoo, ignore the crazy guy in the back.......carry on
