Frozen in Fear.
What have I done?
Will I ever see another ray of the sun?
Life was so fun, now I am on the run.
the burden I carry feels like a ton.
My conscience got me on the run

Jack Daniels now owns me.
After a quart why did I choose to take revenge?
I thought it would set me free, but now my conscience put chains on me.
Why should I forgive?  Why should I ask for forgiveness.

Life was so fun now I am on the run.
This burden I carry feels like a ton.
My conscience got me on the run...

song notes:

inspired by things in life over time along with thinking about Ray's song "The Widows Eye",
(you know who you are)... etc...
and this is an exercise in getting familiarized with recording and mixing acoustic drums.

I have a crap set (except the high hat is legit).  But I am starting to get the sound at least decent
as some of the 60's and 70's recordings, which is what this song sounds like.
The guitar is Harley Benton PRS copy using an organ sound from the Boss ME-25.  My teenage son actually loved this sound and the overall song (without the lead, he doesn't like it).

It isn't that I really care what someone else thinks but it is interesting to hear and see.
Shecter bass DI with chourus added during mix.  I mixed this a number of times including Bandlab and the Zoom L-20.  In the end I
chose the Zoom mix edited in Audacity and using the Masterdesk free plug in that Zoltan recommended.  Whether it is better or not
I like it.  Plus it has analog needles so that makes it cool... I like cool...

Someone is going to say this, so I'll get in here and say it first: That guitar sound took me right to Pink Floyd's "Breathe" – except your chorus settings is on more caffeine. It sounds great. (This is more encouragement for me to be bolder with my chorus pedal. Don't be surprised if you hear something from me, eventually, with the swirly-est sound I can produce.)

I like the whispered vocals – they set the mood as soon as the song starts.

The drums sound good. I don't know what you are doing about recording, mixing, and micing the drums but they sound really good. Knock it off already trying to lower expectations. ("My drum set is crap." "I'm just a noob with recording and mixing.") You've steadily improved since you bought that kit. You've arrived!

Thanks Ted for the encouragement... I want to get a new set but... until I can pay cash for a set I am not going to get anything different.  This year we put a new roof on the house and I did not have to borrow any money for that but I am still paying a couple of other bills off.. you know how it is, we all have stuff...so I think I am just going to put new heads on what I have for now... one drum at a time...Also possibly get a new kick pedal because what I have is very noisy, or maybe I can work on that...I just realized too that the resonant head or the bottom head of the right tom is missing.  Some people take those off but it does change the sound drastically... I can bang a bit but... It ain't pretty...lol

Very cool song Stephen, I love that rhythm guitar sound, sounds like a synth. It really does have that 60's sound to it. Yeah I can hear some pink Floyd in this and some Neil young and REM even.
The drums sound great. I like the new kit you've ordered. The lead guitar riff sounds straight from the 60's / 70's. Love the sound. Great lyrics and vocals.
Always love your music. ( can I have your autograph). :-)

Love me a good Leslie sound, and this one adds to the vibe of this tune. I am afraid to ask how "things in life over time" influenced this.

I wrote a long rant (about older female librarian and our "affair" that ended up because of Caravanserai album etc.), but i think universum didn't want this story to be told, and i'm not going to type it again as it seems to have lost while posting...

So i'll just keep it short. Yes, Stephen is in DA HOUSE!

Leslie sound?  I hadn't thought of that but yes... it is maybe the guitar version of that.  I kind of like some of the Boss presets on the ME... I have been exploring more and more of the unit.  I was thinking hard about more, bigger, better (you know the game) but I realized there was alot about what I had that I still needed to use...
