Ive been a bit busy lately with personal issues, family and work so am just getting back onto the site again, listening and getting my enthusiasm for music again.

I've always been fond of rhyming slang. And "farmer Giles" in England is slang for "piles" (haemorrhoids) not a funny medical problem if you actually suffer with them, however, it does make for a funny song i thought lol.

This song was based on an actual postman i knew once who did suffer with piles unfortunately and had to quit because of the walking, sitting in the van etc.
I thought it would make a humouress song one day. so i did it set to a jazzy / swing style.
Keith added the vocals and harmonies.

Thanks for listening.

Postman Giles

Postman Giles, he had piles
He used to walk for miles and miles
But now it ain't no fun
It's just a pain in the bum

Postman Giles, got so sick and tired
He couldn't do his job, so he got fired
And now he's all out of work
But his backside still hurts

Well he tried potions and hundreds of lotions
But nothing did the trick
They just made him sick, sick, sick.

But he still sings, La,la la - la,la,la,la
la,la,la,la- la,la.
Ooh, la,la,la
Ooh, la,la,la.

He tried potions and hundreds of lotions
But nothing seemed to work
He just felt like a b, b, burk

Postman Giles, he found a new vocation
He bought himself a farm, and now he ploughs his twenty acres
In his tractor everyday
And his backside feels ok

Postman Giles, is not a postman anymore
He rides his combine harvester instead of knocking doors
He rides for miles and miles
His face is full of smiles

Now they call him farmer Giles (La,la,la-la,la,la)
Farmer Giles,(La,la,la-la,la,la)

Farmer Giles, (La,la,la-la,la,la)
Farmer Giles (La,la,la-la,la,la) ...EVERYBODY!

REPEAT TWICE

drum break

REPEAT CHORUS TO FINISH

Oh yeah..but he's still got his piles.

That's very creative and funny. Really sounds like a Beatles (Paul) song, which is high praise! I think I hear a tuba part? Or whatever that is mixed in with the bass sounds cool. Are you playing all the keyboard parts?

Thanks a lot. Yeah I didn't intentionally set out to sound beatle-ish, but guess it is a bit.
Yeah I played all the keyboard parts. A lot of instruments from a software library called swing. Yes, some tuba in there, double bass, harmonica, accordion, some sax, and trumpets..I think that's it lol.

That's impressive keyboard playing, and the sounds are high quality and well chosen too!

This one's right up my street - a bit of a music hall arrangement, and vocally it reminded me a little of late-60s Ray Davies. The music and vocals are top-notch.

Well done!

Cute content and I love your instrumentation and arrangement.  I've had to deal with piles occasionally.  Not fun.

Oh dear, no never had the misfortune to have piles. Strange how you made this subject matter into a very pleasurable experience. You almost hve to divide your brain in 2 listening to this. One half digs the comic element/lyrics but the other half has to park the comedy and just enjoy the music and melodies. Lovely song chaps.

Darren - you're bloody crazy, mate LOL Who ever thought of writing a song about this subject? Excellent production with a Kinks kinda feel and hats off to Keith for the you beaut vocal work. This must've taken ages to put together with all that instrumentation and a great job - well done.
