The woman came from a troubled land
Of atrocities and despair
A baby boy still on her breast
An orchid in her hair
Eyes as soft as a fallow deer
Skin the colour of Burmese teak
Displaced like a million others
From the coast of Mozambique.

I felt her imposing stare
Her entreaties and silent pleas
Her heart and soul of Africa
Yet her tongue of Portuguese
And I heard the officials baffle her
With their ambiguous doublespeak
And the Bantu woman mystified
Sent back to Mozambique

Oh nobody welcome here anymore.

this is hauntingly beautiful Ray.  It is full of surprises as it goes on.  First mention to the vocals.  A bit different progression that I have heard from you here.  Intricate work.
That lead guitar also is amazing.  Another massive track Ray!

First thought that struck me is the quality of the production. Lush, beautiful sounds. Some great gentle twinkling guitars, but me being a sucker for the lead, that was sooo cool when it came in. Man you can play! Great tune Ray.

This song deserves some more development, if you have the heart for it. It's too short, and fades out on the solo. The song pulls its punches, rather than delivering the emotional knockout of which it is capable. I have ideas, if you want to hear them.

I sometimes forget that you, like me, are a resident of the Southern Hemisphere.

Thematically, the song reminds me of "Itty Bitty Dots," a song by my friend Robert Neustadt, which talks of migrants trying to reach Mayotte, Lampedusa, or other itty bitty dots in the ocean that might offer a bit of hope for desperate to improve their lives. He wrote an entire album on the theme: Voluntary Return: Songs of Solidarity with Migrants and Refugees.

Hell, I'll invite him to join Songcrafters – pointing him to this song. He'd be a good guy to have around here. He, evidently, knows how to write and record songs.

I love the finger picked acoustic 12 string guitar work, the haunting melody and the storied lyrics.  Another of your best, Ray.

Drivel. This song does not need any development lyrically. I could've written several more verses droning on and on, boring the crap out of everybody but the essence of the song is conveyed in just the two verses and the very last line alone says everything I wanted to say.

I like the atmoshere of this...the music fits perfectly to the lyrics. Top class production, too.
