the second song of my cycle dedicated to Pierre Barouh

There are songs that make it very difficult for me to do a cover? but this one was not done in one take at all
Like what you can make a beautiful song with 3 chords
D6/F# Em7 A7

I dedicate this samba to my friend Stephen M and his wife   ;)

lyrics abnd translate

Being happy is more or less what we're looking for
I like to laugh and sing, but I don't stop
People who are good, from being happy

Yet if it is a samba without sadness
It is a wine that does not give drunkenness
A wine that does not give drunkenness
No it is not the samba that I want

[Pierre Barouh speaking now].

"To do a samba without sadness is to love a woman who would only be beautiful." These are the words of Vinicius de Moraes, poet and diplomat author of this song, and as he says himself, the blackest white man in Brazil
And I, who may be the most Brazilian Frenchman in France, would like to tell you about my love for samba, like a lover who doesn't dare to talk to the one he loves, would talk about it to everyone he meets

[Rest of the song]
I know some that the song makes uncomfortable
Others for whom it is nothing but a fashion
Others who enjoy it without loving it
I love it and I've traveled the world
Looking for its wandering roots
Today to find the deepest
It's the samba, a song that must be sung

[Pierre speaks]
João Gilberto, Carlos Lyra, Dorival Caymmi, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Baden Powell who made the music of this song and so many others, you have my greeting
Tonight I would like to drink to drunkenness to better rave about all those that thanks to you I discovered and who made the samba what it is, saravah
Pixinginha, Noel Rosa, Dolores Duran, Cyro Monteiro and so many others
And all those who are coming, Edu Lobo, and my friends who are with me tonight, Baden of course, Ico, Oswaldo, Luigi, Oscar, Nicolino, Milton. Saravah
All those who make it a word that I will never be able to pronounce without shivering, a word that shakes a whole people making them sing, hands raised to heaven

[Song]

I was told that it comes from Bahia
That it owes its rhythm and its poetry to
Centuries of dance and pain

But whatever the feeling it expresses
She is white with forms and rhymes
White of forms and rhymes
But she is Negro, Negro at heart

But whatever the feeling she expresses
She's white in form and rhyme
White in form and rhyme
But she's a Negro, a Negro at heart

But whatever the feeling she expresses
She's white in form and rhyme
White in form and rhyme
But she's a Negro, a Negro at heart

She's a Negro, a Negro at heart
She's a nigger right in her heart
She's nigger all right nigger in her heart

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Beautiful music, Jean!!!
I love the samba, and this song is very special.
This is my first listen to this song by B Powell, and you did it justice, my friend.
Simply lovely!!!
The guitar tone is so warm, and the solo sounds great!!!
Thanks for sharing this recording.

Beautiful playing and vocal JP. When I hear this type of music it always takes me to a warmer, sunny place.

wow.  those lyrics are powerful.  I got distracted reading them.
now I am listening to the song again without reading.  It's a lovely tune and the recording is very good.  Can't wait to play it for Silsa.
