Interesting you decided to cover this one... good job.  I was smart enough to understand I could not afford this luxury in life...good thing too because it seemed like a superman drug.. I see why people loved it..
I watched a few folks I knew destroy their lives over their love affair with it.

I like the way you accentuate the lyrics with the voice... yes, this sounds great

Great job. This is not what I think of when I think of Jackson Brown – and I'm a fan, in a low-effort kind of way. Love the sound of two ukes and a banjo.

I've got a friend who did prison time for dealing cocaine. I always imagined him selling it out of his car, or something. We were not in contact during this period of our lives. But not long ago he told me stories. He was freakin' jet-setting for a couple of years living like a senior client representative for, I dunno, an oil company.

Also: Winslow, Arizona makes a big deal about that "standing on a corner" line by Jackson Brown. They have an annual event, and a bronze statue of a guy standing on corner. It's kind of sad, but it's all they got (other than selling "Route 66" souvenirs).  But the actual location where Jackson saw a girl (my lord) in a flatbed ford was in Flagstaff, Arizona, in front of the Der Wienerschnitzel. But Jackson thought "Winslow Arizona" flowed off the tongue better than "Flagstaff Arizona."

I love the vocals on this song!
And this version is very chill, and you made it your own, and I love it.
The Hawaiian vibe is so warm and lovely, reminds me of being on the islands and just relaxing and enjoying some.... beer and cigars.
Thanks for this gem, Hook!

Great cover of this old blues song Hook.

Unfortunately, it doesn't qualify for 1977 fest because it's based on a "Traditional" song which was recorded in many different versions prior to Jackson Browne's version in 1977. The Running on Empty album credits the track to "Reverend Gary Davis, additional lyrics by Browne and Glenn Frey". Reverend Gary Davis's version was recorded in June 1957. According to Wikipedia, "Davis said that he learned the song in 1905 from a traveling carnival musician, Porter Irving".

I love the "beaded" sound of your uke...it sounds like a multitude of little glass beads falling and bouncing on the tiles :D

special mention for the "sniff" at the end of the song...but it's not good, you should stop

Bummer about the 1977 Fest technicality. Still a great cover though.

To soften the disappointment, let me ramble on some more about Jackson Brown:

I said...

Quote from: Ted on September 12, 2022, 09:58:03 AM...the actual location where Jackson saw a girl (my lord) in a flatbed ford was in Flagstaff, Arizona, in front of the Der Wienerschnitzel. But Jackson thought "Winslow Arizona" flowed off the tongue better than "Flagstaff Arizona."

How do I know this? That Der Wienerschnitzel is still a hot-dog restaurant called The Dog Haus. And they keep a laminated copy of this article in the drive-through window, so you don't ever forget that the girl (my lord) drove her flatbed Ford through that very driveway.

Quote from: Arizona Daily SunBrowne started writing "Take It Easy" in the back of a Dodge paneled van in 1971 after his car broke down in Flagstaff and some new friends offered him a ride back to Los Angeles.

He was in east Flagstaff when he saw a woman in a Toyota truck pulling out of what was then Der Wienerschnitzel at the corner of East Route 66 and North Switzer Canyon.

Really love this, especially the vocals with so much emotion and dynamics, and the banjo adds something special.  Great job.  I would drive 100 miles to see you at an open mic night.
