I aspire to work this way. With this song, once I realized that I was going to have to bounce, I found a blank copy of my track sheet and decided to be less "wing it," and more methodical. But I still resisted many impulses to prolong and complicate the process, and I left in a few glitches and mistakes.

Yup, very good cover. Nicely done Ted. I usually listen on headphones but today I have this playing on my PC monitor speakers and it sounds fine. I usually mix on headphones, then listen on speakers - and if something seems a bit thin I'll push it up in the mix. By the time I am ready for unleashing stuff on an album - I have usually listened on 4 systems (including the crap car stereo I have) So, pretty much what you use to do ;-)

When I tag the MP3s of my original songs, the "album" is  always "Demos." It's my way of telling myself that it's okay to share it, even with the flaws that I know are there. I have to pretend that I will one day come back and polish these turds. Otherwise I would never share anything.

For my 18th birthday my sister bought me (as a joke) the famous book by Eric Weber, "How to Pick Up Girls."

One of the techniques I remember was to find something about the "girl" about which she may feel slightly self-conscious, and then compliment her for that thing. If she has a big nose, say, "You have the most beautiful nose."

I think of that whenever people compliment my vocals.

From one huge fan to another: I think the lyrics on this version are better than the album. Such better imagery, it tells a fascinating story of a woman who sees in the Kennedy assassination an opportunity to start over. What do you think?

The only thing that bugs me is that, in the original, EC sings "Everything means less than zero." But in the Dallas version he sings "Everything is less than zero." Did EC just fuck up his own lyrics, or was it intentional? Is there a reason why "is" is more appropriate in the Dallas version?
