The Light is a song composed by Derek Brown.

Derek requested for me to sing his song, and this is my offering to all peoples in the dark.  And His light is for all, and specifically for the marginalized, the lost, the outcast, and the sinners!!!

Thank you Derek for letting me be a part of your song journey.

this is so wonderful Rene... incredible passion for music shines through in your singing and playing... I have a question yet again about your recording process.  When you did this video I did not see any mic or indication of recording.  Do you record separate from your video and then add the track to the video?  Doesn't seem like it as your video perfectly lines up with the singing so I doubt you could be that perfect trying to "sing along" to your track..... so what is the mic set up here...is it a few feet away one mic picking up both guitar and voice?
It's so clear...wow.
sorry for so many questions.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the wonderful comments, as always.
Always a pleasure to hear from you!
An online friend my Los Angeles actually helped me set up my recording equipment.
To include hiding my microphones.
Here's my set-up:
2 microphones:  SM-58 directed to guitar (positioned on the lower area, not visible on the camera)
Ear Trumpet Labs "Edwina" (positioned just above my head, directed to my vocals)
Into:  Yamaha MG10XU Mixer (I am using a little bit of room reverb #6)
Into:  UAD Volt 2/76 USB Audio Interface (I love the built-in mic preamp and compressor)
Into:  IMAC (I am using Quick Time Player Movie) to record my video

Very simple, and reasonably priced equipment, except maybe for the ETL Edwina which is about $600

Thanks for asking, and always appreciate your comments!!!
My recording is "live performance", and no additional effects after the actual recording.
Sometimes, it can take me about 10 tries to get to an acceptable video recording.
Respectfully,
Rene

you're setup sounds great and thanks for the info...that Edwina sounds great and the SM-58 sure does a good job on the guitar...I don't mind seeing the equipment but this looks very clean and you look totally comfortable in front of the camera.  I hear you about the number of takes...when I record sometimes I might play a part up to 50 times.  In the case I am building a song from scratch some cool things happen when I do this in that I often find some good additions as I learn the part better...
In the case of you doing a cover I am sure that you are going for the really solid timing and overall performance... your practice is paying off because you do it very well..
if you are not playing out and about I am sure you would be welcome in many places...
one more question.  Are you playing these from memory or are you looking at chords and lyrics while doing it?

Hi Stephen,
Outstanding feedback, thanks!!!
I do not sing from memory anymore.  I have my songs written down and place in front of me, usually taped to my computer screen, right next to the built-in camera.  I also have books of songs with lyrics and chords.  When I was growing up, people would call me to come to their homes and parties to play guitar and sing with them, at those times, mostly singing from memory, but the books with lyrics always help.
For covers, I play the songs from my memory of how I heard it, but my own style of guitar playing and syncopation.
For original compositions, the video recordings really help, as they serve as my memory bank for the song melody.
Thanks for the conversation Stephen!

Beautifully played and sung. You have such a great voice - and control of it. My only criticism is that there are parts of this that veer very (almost too) close to the song 'The Wind Beneath my Wings'. Fine performance though.

Another great song, beautifully written and played.
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.
