As usual, running way late,  ::) but I finally finished it.

I've always liked this Buddy Holly song, but wanted to try doing an acoustic guitar version rather than even attempting to simulate the full orchestral arrangement of the original. True Love Ways had already been recorded and orchestrated four months before the fateful Winter Dance Party Tour of 1959, but this song wasn't released until March of 1960.

Buddy Holly, looking too cool for school with a Gibson acoustic

This one was a bit of a bugger to learn and sing & play smoothly, but worse, Adobe Audition gave me fits by crashing seemingly every few minutes while I was mixing and mastering it. A few late additions include a melodica toward the end (playing some counterpoint melodies similar to what was on the orchestrated original), and my home-made drum kit consisting of a cardboard box for kick drum, hand claps for a snare (I also added a short delay to make it sound more "snarey"), and finally, overdubbed hand claps doing high-hat eighth-notes.

Also, I used a new mic on many tracks - a CAD Equitek - which is a much finer device than anything I can put in front of it.

Thanks for listening,
cuthbert

Really very good, you gave your cover the real taste of the Fifties' songs mood. In other words, it sounds absolutely TRUE.

Superb job on this, Cuth! You post songs (too) rarely, but they are always top class - like this one! So well performed and melodica puts a fine flavor to this.

Superbly played and performed, I really liked the home made drum kit and the melodica additions. Fantastic sound all round and very well recorded and mixed. Sounds fab on my monitors! Nice work indeed.

Great stuff Cuthbert... this was great.

A lovely song performed originally and with feeling. Digging the whole idea of the Home drum kit"!
