Another original composition and much-played live favourite of mine -
'Another Drinking Song'.
I wrote it when I was told I'd f*cked my liver through enjoying the booze too much. Luckily, the liver is the only organ that can repair itself, so I'm almost back to normal (whatever that is...).
The acoustic guitar is a Takamine 12-string recorded through the in-built mic (which allowed a some simultaneous backing vocals without using another track).
4-Track again.
Hope you like.
hats off to you tim, you are a real talent. another great song and another great production.

That means a lot. Thank you.
:)
Acoustic sounds great man! What patch did you use?
Great tune and production is nice.
Cool song and atmosphere, i know that this is not the collaboration area but i'd like to add a bass guitar line if you want.
Saludos, Marcelo.
wow, goosebumps on my neck and arms. don't get that with 99% of comercial music these days.
very cool, very talented :)

Sounds good. I'm more than happy to add it onto the collaboration thread if you come up with something. It's all standard tuning, but the guitars are capo'd at the 4th fret (if that helps...).

Thanks! The acoustic is recorded on the in-built mic using the 'VO Comp' effect patch. One of the best things about the BR (for me) is it's ability to get a good acoustic sound through the mic. Much better than the flat electro-acoustic tone you get through a lead.
It's a 12-string takamine though - a nice full sound, but only works in certain contexts and in certain songs.
did you know you can change the effects for the inbuilt mic, or any input, to the guitar effects i often use stclean guitar effect for a trippy vocal sound.. to change press effects then using the left cursor press it till it goes to mc, then press - value to change to gt, then use the right cursor to go the number of the effect then use the value button to pick an effect.
does that make sense?
That's a good tip - thanks ORH. I was wondering if that was possible. I used to put vocals through the drum panning and distortion effects on my old Tascam. You can't beat a bit of trippyness!
Quote from: oldrottenhead on September 08, 2008, 03:43:27 AMdid you know you can change the effects for the inbuilt mic, or any input, to the guitar effects
That's right. But not just
guitar effects on any input. You can use
any effects bank with
any input. I've recently discovered that the Enhancer effect from the MIC bank does a nice job of making my solidbody guitar's humbuckers sound like single-coil pickups, somewhat like a Fender Stratocaster. Too bad the Enhancer isn't available in the GTR bank so I could combine it with other guitar effects. I wish we didn't have to deal with banks and algorithms and could instead use any effects in any combination.
By the way, you can also use the insert effects with the drums by changing the insert point (see pages 64 and 65 in the Micro BR manual, 3rd edition). This can produce some pretty wild drum sounds.
Ok, here we go!!!
I have added a bass line to glue all the instruments, a basic one with some subtle fills according to the guitars and others free.
The Bass is a cheap one and the preset is a custom made from the clean amp with metal speakers and compression.
I hope you like it!!
Feel free to move the post to the collaboration subject, i don't know how to do it.
Saludos desde Argentina!!!
Thanks Prive! That's the first time I've ever heard anything other than myself on one of my songs!
I love what you've done - it's really added something, and the closing coda sounds awesome now.
I don't know how to move this to the collaboration thread either, but I'm sure one of the mods can.
I'm going to post this new version on my music site. What's your name so that I can give you a credit on there? (message me if you don't want to post it on the forum...).
Nice work!
The new version is posted on my site here:

Great song as ever, love the sound of that 12, and the bassline really added to it as well. Great stuff both.
listening to marcelo's adds another green bump.
OTD....
What a cracker Greeny...
You have so much talent....
Dont know how I have missed this for the last 6 years....
Well done and Hope you had a good birthday....
Alex
I admire anyone who can pour their heart out lin a lyric like this. Add that lyric to a strong melody and a beautifully crafted chord progression & you have a real winner. This is brilliant!
One of the SC classic! Dreamy chords with excellent songwriting and performance!
OTD Bump No 2.
I'm at home in lock down, watching the Aussie Rules Football on mute and having a look around the site.
I am amazed by the skill required to produce such a polished performance on display on this recording.
The early comments are also interesting. They are a time capsule for many of us who started off here together more than a decade ago using the tiny MBR recorder.
Whilst some of us have moved on to other recording techniques, Tim has continued with the MBR. I guess, once you have mastered the tools, you can focus more on the music.
Great song! Glad I found it and glad I bumped it.
Ian
Love your Honesty and the song , i didnt realize how long ago you penned this tune, and that somebody had bumped it right back to the here and know , i hope you are fit and healthy, and still enjoying a pint BTW ,
Ridiculously good vocal and i love the song
Dunny
Big apologies first off totally missed this absolute belter, just so melodic with great lyrics, class stuff, loved it!!
pretty good using just the onboard mic for the acoustic and some backing vocals...I think you really know how to get alot out of your equipment...kind of like a great coach that can take some players and beat better teams just because he is such a great coach...and I suppose you wouldn't be much of a Brit if you hadn't had a bout with the booze? I don't know, maybe it is just a stereotype... and just for anyone who might care... my grandfather came to Canada at 9 and then the US in late teens (and both were by himself), from England. My grandmother moved from England to Canada at 16 where after a time she met my grandpa and married...then moved to the US...so I am mostly Brit! ha...
Missed this first time round, loved it this time round. Superb stuff as always and sounds amazing. A real treasure.
I haven't heard one from you that I didn't like and this is no exception.
This is one of the best songs from "SC classics folder" on my mp3 player.
What a great song, Tim. A good, honest story of strength, and overcoming a serious obstacle in life. Well written, well performed.
tim again wow fantastic song , love it , and i know how hard it is to give up the booze , as i had to give it up as well , and also the ciggies , i have been clean now for 11 yrs , i also wrote a song called angels dancing on my tonge , but every song you do is always well crafted and as ive said before . you've got a knack with the lyrics , superb song tim , .....cheers tony cee
