A little late finishing this, and another one a little off the beaten path for me... :)
When henwrench initially suggested this for me way back when he suggested SuggestFest, it was about the last song that I would have expected. I'm not the biggest fan of the Eagles, but of all their material, this is probably one of my favorites. Started on ukulele in July, and then left for quite some time as work and home stuff took over most of my time. I resumed it in September after I acquired this lovely Eastwood Airline electric mandola (big brother to the mandolin):

It was a lot of fun to learn, and I've got some halfway decent callouses on my fingers from sliding around for those leads ;D - so thanks for the suggestion, henwrench! Sorry it took so long to finish and post...
Thanks for listening,
cuthbert

This is so out of the box awesome my brother, I can't even contain myself! Who has an electric Mandola?????cuthbert does, that's who...CUTHBERT does! An electric Manddola, that's just so F#$%@ng cool man, you are so F$%^&ng cool & this track is so mind bendingly cool. It's kinda like I'm on acid, the guitar has 8 strings & it's not quite the eagles...I'm going out of my mind & I love it! You are so cool, cooler than cool...Ice Cold!
Rock On!
You post songs just seldom, but they are always done with excellent cuthbert perfection! Ukes and mandos sounds so sweet and ethereal on this! I'm not a big Eagles fan either, but I like your version. Here's something different and new! Everything is on the right place - especially your voice is icing on the cake!
Enjoyable listening! And yes, piepod bound...
Oh my this is amazing - I really don't like the Eagles but you have turned this into solid Gold Mr Cuthbert. You should really do more . . . pleeeeeeeease ;D
Being a life long West Coast Californian I'm a huge Eagles fan and you done a great job on this song cuthbert. It's still very much recognizable yet you've made it into something totally new. I like the slowed down tempo and the dreamy nature that the harmony vocals and electric mandola add to the sound. Nice one!
Farrell
get outta here, this is fandabby dozy, that madola looks sweeeeeeet great foresight from henny to pick this, for some reason it reminds me of big star. off the chart goodness.
Fantastic cover Cuthbert - love the combination of all those instruments I've never heard of ! Whats an angel hair guitar? As a Brit I can only say it all sounds very American !
I can't believe you're not Eagles fans ;D ;D
oh well ..... I do like the Eagles, mostly because of thier great melodies and the great harmonies ...
But I must say you've taken the Eagles to a new level... this is simply brilliant ... I love the slow pace and the laidback feel ... Like Kari I find the vocals the icing of the cake ... that said, I love your arrangement, the electric mandola is a really nice touch !
piPod bound? you betcha !!!
Just had to jump in and say: Love the sound of that mandola!
I'm an Eagles fan, and I love it! And you've also given me GAS for one of them there Mandola's! This is superbly done. A lush and dreamy interpretation that works on so many different levels. Beautiful work :-)
Excellent cover. I like the slower tempo and your choice of instruments. Great job on the leads too. That Mandola looks like a really cool instrument. Eastwood makes some great stuff.
I've never been a big fan of The Eagles. I appreciate their talent and skill but their music just isn't my cup of tea. I sure like this cover though.

korg miniPops hein? You have to take some photos of your museum, errr, home studio!
BTW1 what is an angel hair guitar?!?
BTW2 don't like Eagles either! Have you heard a version of Hotel California from a band/ duo called moog cookbook? You have to check them out!

Hey, thanks for all the nice feedback folks...much appreciated. :)
I learned a lot doing this song (especially some of the droney mandola parts), and it was fun even though I burned out my vocal cords right near the end (I really need to quit saving final vocals for last) and had to wait for them to heal up before finishing the song.

It's Nashville tuning on old no-name acoustic guitar I have.
Essentially you take a 12-string pack of strings, and use only the high strings in the pack, so the tuning is eadgbe (an octave higher, except for the top b & e). First time I ever tried this was with my old Seagull acoustic back in the Nineties, and everyone called it 'angel hair' tuning back then, and so that's how I always think of it. I only first ever heard of 'Nashville tuning' on this very site.
The stick dulcimer is a baby brother to an Appalachian dulcimer, but played more like a guitar (lower strings at the bottom, instead of the top). It's also tuned up a fourth compared to standard dulcimer tuning.
Between the angel hair guitar and the stick dulcimer, those are the acoustic steel strings you hear in the mix. Very zingy... :)

Mine's a Univox SR-55, which was the American brand name for the Korg Mini Pops 3 sold in the U.S. I also used it on my Thanks For Christmas (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=9929.msg132642#msg132642) cover a few years ago. It looks like this:

Excellent recording. I'm an Eagles fan. I like what you did with this.
Let me start by saying that delay on the last chord is delicious. The slower tempo took me just a moment to dial in. It was like something sounded right but felt wrong or something. By the time the laid back vocals got me into the groove I couldn't think of a better tempo for you to play it in. Really glad I got to hear this one, very creative interpretation without being too heavy handed. Just a nice, relaxed version of a damn fine song.
I'm gonna be giving this my full attention when I get the chance, just to let you know I know it's here... :) :)

Fantastic recording!
I love the quality of production and sounds of instruments...
Well done
Jean-Sébastien
Oh shit, I don't know what happened, this brought tears to my eyes. I have to think that this is how it was written and man you've captured some indefinable here. Love it. Roscoe
I missed this - I found it now and it's fabulous. I love the laid back almost drunken style of this. It's a summer afternoon in the park or on the moors, a bottle or two of cider and nothing to do except snooze in the sunshine.
Fantastic. And the mandothingy is lurvely! Angel tuning - I have a guitar and a full set of 12's - must try that.
I missed this too,That's one great mandolin you've got there.
The laid back feel of the track takes it to a new dimension.
Well done cuthbert.
Okay i knew this was here and had to wait to comment because i wanted a good listen.
It`s really amazing what you did here Cuth. The slower tempo and the mandola give it a majestic feel.
I love the vocals too. Great work buddy!
I mean, seriously? What's not to like? And until now, I never knew Jackson Browne co-wrote this wonder (Saturate Before Using is a mighty fine album).
Love the slow tempo and the vocals and instrumentation are first class.
You did it, cuth. You did it.
