Hi,
This is my first post, a cover of Peter Green's Man of the world.
It's a bit ropey but was a good learning curve, excuse the weak vocals, I'm no singer!
Not ropey at all, sweet cover...your guitar work is excellent. Your vocals are also excellent.....the whole damn thing is excellent......I love this song....I love early Fleetwood Mac.....great job........what are you going to tackle next. Really fantastic guitar playing.
;) Thanks Bluesberry! Its just good to finally get a song on the site after a couple of months of hanging around.
Was thinking of tackling a Pixies cover next. Thought I would try and get a couple of covers under my belt and then move to the serious stuff and try to write something from scratch!
Excellent not ropey in the slightest like the voice and some great guitar playing. Now you've lost your cherry what's next?
braw tell yer maw
oh yeah ....
great first music post. A great song that you've covered excellently !!
Your vocals are really good and will only be better for each post as you get more confident. This is really a fantastic start !! Looking forward to your next offering !!
Sweet, Burtog!
Really nice guitar playing, and your vocals are fine. Your voice reminds me a bit of Frank Black, so can't wait to hear the Pixies cover!
I've loved this song from the moment I first heard it. There aren't many songs that are such an obvious cry for help. Peter Green at his most vulnerable and emotional, but with such sweet-toned guitar genius. You've done a stunning job with this. I think the vocals are brilliant, and the guitar is stunning. The mix could be a bit louder and more dynamic, but I'm just nitpicking. The performance though... man, you really nailed it beautifully.
Thanks Greeny.
I'm glad you noticed the dynamics and loudness thing, I did feel this was something I found difficult to improve. I didn't do any work outside of the BR800, I didn't take the track to Sonar, that's something else to learn.
Is that something I should look to do??
Any general tips on improving loudness/dynamics/balance would be very much appreciated!!
What a GREAT first post. I am looking forward to your next. Relax, You have a great voice and excellent guitar chops. Ted

I don't have a BR800, so I don't know what mixing capabilities it has. I tend to use the 'Mixdown' pre-set on the MBR which seems to have the right level of treble and presence to make stuff sound professional(ish). I'm not really an expert in this area though. I also tend to push the volume up a bit on mixdown. I guess if you do it in some kind of daw, you can see if there's any peaking going on so you don't over do it.
Looking forward to hearing more stuff... this really is top quality!
Sweet and expressive singing style. I really like it. Very well done cover. Bravo!
Welcome aboard and this is such a nice 1st post!
Your vox is great!

a very passionate performance. i don't know the original, but this is a great first post!
Wow , a wonderful cover of one of my most favourite Peter Green tracks , as Greeny said , i too loved this song the first moment i heard it , give yourself a big pat on the back for a sublime first post , excellent stuff
Rob
Well done Burtog! Excellent guitar and great vocals too! ;D
I missed this one somehow - Excellent performance, I love it! Great tune and excellent playing/singing - Love your voice.
I agree it could be louder, but that's probably just getting used to the equipment. Been messing with Tony's 800 and it's a great recording machine. I noticed it's less sensitive than my MicroBR (A great thing!), and I have to crank the knobs up a little bit more. But not to detract from you song, it's excellent!
Look forward to hearing another one from you!
Mark
Hey Burtog... First let me say this is an excellent take... as far as the vocal mix I have to agree it's a little in the background. Not sure on the 800, but if you can toggle through the effects during mastering on the 800 let your ear do the deciding. You should be able to brighten it up quite a bit. This is a real keeper and you nailed it just fine.
great bump
QuoteWas thinking of tackling a Pixies cover next.
i'm up for a collab on that if you want.
A well deserved bump , excellent all round performance , including the vox , ropey my arse , top cover
Rob
Magic first musical post. One of my favourite songs beatifully performed. I wish I could sing that "bad."

Now resides in my favorites folder!

Another fab song that I'd missed.
Great playing and singing.
Loved this, one of the first songs I ever learned to play on the guitar, so many memories awakened! Lovely guitar playing and i think your vox sound pretty good - they fit the treatment well.
The only niggle is your levels - way too low. Perhaps when you bounced or mixed tracks you had the overall levels too low, or recorded the original tracks too low. On the BR800. you want to make sure the little "maximum" bar lands near 0db. Oh, and try using the mastering effects if you didn't already, this gives a better finished result.
Great track though, well done!
Cheers,
Nigel
You have put your mark upon this song. Nicely sung and played.
A good music editing program is next for your must-have list.
That is where the fluffed notes, timing errors, track synching and fancy stuff is done.
The editor is to musicians, same as a darkroom is to a photographer.
The place where raw material is turned into something wonderful.
Well done.
Nice work here Burtog and it's only your first post! I'll be watching for more if this is the indication of what is to come. Again great cover of this song!

Great work on this. I am feeling the emotion in your vocals and guitar. Very tastefully done. A really heavy song.
Cheers
