BR-80 Compatible cards

Hi Guys, I tried using a Sandisk 8 Gig SDHC card into my recent MBR-80 purchase and I wasn't able to Put a 16 bit wave file that happened to work in eband and Live mode but not MTR mode.
I was stumped and frustrated since it seemed to recongnize the card when formated.

But now I am happy cause I figured it out YAY!!!

That's surprising. SanDisk is one of the most popular brands and is on Roland's list of SD cards that are compatible with the BR-80.

Are you certain that it's a genuine SanDisk? They have a big problem with counterfeiters. This article says that 1/3 of the SanDisk cards in the world are fake.

If your card is a fake, that might explain why you had trouble. What's the returns policy at the retailer you purchased it from? Maybe you can exchange it for another or get a refund.

Did you initialize the card in the BR-80 before using it? Many memory cards come pre-formatted. That might be okay on your computer or in a camera, but it won't work right in your BR until you initialize it in the BR.

I bought it at Best Buy, It was an 8gig sandisk ULTRA SDHC card.
I also formatted it in the MBR-80 before use. 
I was able to import a 16bit wave file to it and could play it in the eband mode.
but when I would try to get it to the MTR mode as per the directions you sent me, it would say NOSONG when I would try to get it into a Stereo or Mono track. which had me really confused at that point.

Had you created a song? The BR-80 doesn't create a new song when you initialize the card, as the Micro BR and others do. You have to create the song yourself. See page 57 of the BR-80 manual. If you haven't created a song, you'll get the "No song!" error message. TonyW had trouble with that when he first got his BR-80 because he assumed that initialization would create the song for him as it always did on his Micro BR. Perhaps you made the same assumption?

You said in the other topic that you were able to import the WAV file when you used the card that came with the BR-80. Since that card comes with a demo song already on it, that would explain why it worked. If you initialized that card and didn't create a new song, you'd have the same problem because initialization would erase everything from the card, including the demo song. Since the card would then have no songs on it, trying to import the WAV file would give you the "No song!" error message.

Try putting in the SanDisk card and creating a new song as per page 57. Then try importing the WAV file. If it works, then I suspect that there's nothing wrong with your SanDisk card. You just weren't aware that a song doesn't exist in MTR mode until you create it yourself.

Does anyone know were Toshiba actually has their SDHC cards made? Japan, Korea or China (Hong Kong)?

Thanks 64, That is the answer to my problem. I was so used to the way that the Micro Br created the song already, thats good news, I will try it and report if I have any problems.

I am so loving the Micro Br-80- I just got done with a new song and used the built in Mics, they are FANTASTIC!! the vocal effects patches make it that much Sweeter also.
