The guitars are very well recorded, and the arrangement is really beautiful,
however, I had trouble really investing myself in the song because there are elements of it that seem a little melodramatic to me, mostly the backup vocals and the presentation of the lead vocals.

The vocals are good and in key, but I think that sometimes they seem very insincere.

Do you manipulate your voice when you sing?  I would love to hear this track again with you singing without being inhibited by a certain style.

But, I am really weird I guess, so take it with a grain of salt buddy.  You write beautiful music.

Cheers lads. Hi class Warrier not sure re manipulating the vocals? The backing box are through one of the effects patches if that's what you mean? Sorry you thought the song sounded "insincere" I'm interested how it's possible to tell?
I was pretty pleased with the arrangement.

I loved the arrangement.  I think it sounds really beautiful.  I'm not sure if I can articulate what I meant when I said that it sounded insincere to me.  Please, don't take offense.  Perhaps I am really over-analyzing it.

About manipulating the vocals, I meant, is that your natural singing voice, do you speak the same exact way you sing?

I really did like the song.  I guess my criticism isn't very constructive though...

I guess one thing which makes songs interesting to me is an endeavor to make someone else feel something that they feel.  I can't explain, but John Mayer's song writing lacks the sincerity and passion which you can expect from someone like John Darnielle.

Sure, Gravity is a really good song, but No Children, by the Mountain goats, is far more evocative, because of its sincere lyrics and organic presentation, and therefore, more interesting.

It just seems like you're trying to force it.

The arrangement is beautiful, as I said, and I do believe it is a good song.  Please don't be offended.  I think that you have half the pieces of the puzzle.  This is really good, but it could be really great.   Hope that explains a little better.  Please don't think I am trying to put you down, I just think you should challenge yourself to really capture something that is unmistakably sincere and honest.

Oh well ........

I think this is f*cking awesome. I don't have a problem with the vocal mannerisms / style at all. It's distinctly British, with plenty of Syd Barrett influence (which is no bad thing...). The songwriting and performance are both pure class. And your production & recording is spot on too.

Thanks guys.
Yes Geir i'm really pleased with the M3 i think i'm gonna really enjoy using it.
Cheers John you made me smile with your reply.
Greeny Thanks for the nice comments. I was really pleased with the vocals and tried something a little different for me on the backing vocals giving ita bit of the old falsetto n a bit of chorus. I think it worked quite well. I messed up the guitar on the final chorus but decided to leave it and just drop the volume momentarily :-)  Syd Barrett! i wish :-)
Hi ClassW i'm from the north east of England so if i sang with my full accent some people may not understand a word of it :-) I think i keep what is the essence of me and my mannersioms in the vocals. I'm fine with being told my guitar playing is poo or i'm out of tune but to suggest i might be insincere or sound insincere? well thats a new one on me! but hey every one is entitled to an oppinion and getting feed back is a good thing

Cheers lads (Sunderland Accent)
