My 532 takes about two minutes to build up acceptable volume. Is this normal for this m/c? I've just aquired an 864 (follow my leader?) but wouldn't want to offer my old thang on if it was 'on the way out'!Cheers y'all! boldward

It's not normal. Level isn't something that accumulates. It's either there or it isn't. The only thing I can think of that might account for this behaviour is a faulty power supply. Perhaps when the BR is first switched on it isn't getting full power. Is the display dimmer at first than it is after a few minutes? Have you tried the PSA-120 power adapter from your BR-864 with the BR-532? Does the BR-532 behave the same way when you power it with batteries instead of the PSA adapter?

Mr 64! Re my earlier question, I have tested the m/c with the 864's adapter and with a gang of fresh batteries. Same result! Volume increases from zero-to-acceptable in about two minutes from power-on. Display and other functions aok. Spooky, huh?!  Cheers, boss!  boldward

.... or it could be a faulty capasitor in the low-pass filter on the power circuit. I'm just guessing here, it's been a looooooooooooooong time since I dabbled with electronics. But if the capasitor in the low-passfilter is damaged so that it leaks current, it will use longer time to charge up to the correct voltage.

I'm sure there are others here more qualified than me to ellaborate on this !
