'Movie'

the lord of the dust
settles on the china clowns
until i blow him away
to watch the dust motes dancing around

if they made a movie of my life
if they made a movie of my life

Chorus:

even the projectionist would fall asleep
'cause i'm just bad reviews and empty seats
waiting in the dark for the closing scene
still none the wiser to what it means

now i'm singing my song
to an empty wall
nothing left to write home about
just postcards to no-one at all

if they made a movie of my life
if they made a movie of my life

Chorus

etc

Cor, dear me, that was a bit good. Superb lyrics, song idea, imagery. The mandolin is ace, playing a part that is undoubtedly unmandoliny. Almost blue-grassy in a way. And again, the whole thing is Green. Do you play 'normal' chords, or have you got an arsenal of Green chords? I demand the projectionist re-spools the reel, I wanna hear this again....

Cheers mate! I don't know how to play mandolin, so I'm just instinctively adding whatever sounds right. As for chords, I'm using all kinds of variations on standard major and minor chords - i.e. I'm doing augmentations with my little finger, or removing fingers, or doing pull-offs... anything to make it sound it more interesting. I'm glad you think it sounds blue-grassy... I can feel myself being drawn to blue-grass in quite a big way at the moment, including a bit of GAS for a banjo, lol.

If they made a movie of your life I'm quite sure it would be a very interesting one. And I for one would go and see it :) ....

I do that when I can be bothered to pick up a guitar  :D
Probably the last 8 or so 'songs' that have revealed themselves to me, have done so when I've got that there ukulele in my hands. I refrained from using it in the final mixes, just laying down the basic structure with the uke and then making up all the other shit on top of it....
And as for a banjo.... ::)

Well... this is interesting part. I've bravely put my songs 'out there' on Taxi.com who are an A&R screening site for record, tv and movie companies etc. It's just one long round of rejections. To be fair, I'm getting some highly positive reviews and constructive praise, but no bloody referrals or take-ups. All the things we like on Songcrafters - i.e. originality, quirkiness, daring / obscure lyrics etc, don't wash in the 'real world' of music A&R. I'm basically being told that I need to write bland, mass-appeal, hook-laden chart material. I thought my stuff was already pretty catchy in some cases, but apparently it's not 'obvious' enough. And my lyrics are way too 'literary'.

It's a tough world. If only everyone had the ears and the musical outlook / understanding of you guys, lol.

Well A&R is,nt really about good music it,s all about where the next fast buck is going to be made and what fits there demographic.
I,ve heard a lot of your songs on this site and can,t really remember a bad one, maybe some of your songs do have a literary edge, but in my book that,s what makes the pictures in my head when I,m listening and that is a good thing. There must still be a market for quality songs, not everybody watches X Factor or the like, so just keep trying, your songs are good.

This is epic.

The mandolin reminds me a bit of some of the acoustic tunes on 'Led Zeppelin III' in parts, except I like your playing here better. Everything meshes together smoothly - you do this so well.

Another winner for the Greeny folder.  :)
