im planning on hooking up a midi keyboard to my computer to use VST instruments.  the sound will be coming out of my Imac.

is it possible to go from the line out of the Imac, into the Line In of the boss br-864, so that i can use the BR to recording the sound?

basically i want to record the VST sounds into the BR

i am not familiar with the br-864, but i have done the same with my micro-br, tho i used the headphone out socket on my pc as it was easier to access.then ran a jack from there to line in on my mbr and recorded to two tracks for stereo recording.

do you have to set the input to something other then guitar on the BR?

or does the machine automatically recognize that there is a line in connection?

Oldrottenhead

on the mbr i have to set input as line in, the mbr then automatically assigns tracks 1 and 2 as recording destination

Yes.

Press the Line INPUT SELECT button below the L-LINE-R input sensitivity control. The line input is stereo, so two tracks will be armed by default. Your computer's sound card output is also stereo, so this is probably what you want. However, if you're only working with a mono signal from the computer, you can record to a single track instead.
