Here is a mastering effect that is my attempt to simulate a "tiny" speaker. I have included an mp3 where I play a few bars of house of the rising sun without the setting, and then with the setting.   Enjoy.

Reminds me of these...Sony SRS-7 Portable Minispeakers. (model name? ????)

They are really small speakers that Radio Shack sold way back in the day and sounded exactly like your effect. They connect to each other on the bottom to make this really weird tiny pyramid speaker thing.

I picked this pic up off the internet, as I cannot find mine anymore. I see the pic says 2005, but I got these in the early 90's I think.

I had the same set in the early 90's, the bases locked together.  I usually get that affect by cutting bass and to a lesser extent treble, and boosting mids.
