I lost the audio files of the songs I wrote for my first February Album Writing Month (fawm.org, 14 songs in Feb) in '08. Fortunately, I still have the lyrics. So I'm starting to revisit some of them, get them in performing shape.
Also, for the time being I'll be doing very basic recordings using my wife's video recording software. It does allow me to record three audio tracks and do a bit of basic editing. But this was just guitar and vocal at the same time to get used to it.
I got a bunch of songs like this, about growing up in Ohio. This one is loosely based on my wife's family. By the time I met my wife, her grandmother had died, but we often gathered for big family meals at her grandfather's house in Xenia, Ohio.
I may do a whole album of these some day. Or I may not. Or I might make them scenes in a novel I'm starting.

Sunday Stew

Sunday stew, grandma's making Sunday stew
I'd eat it Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday too
Sunday stew

Starts it off with simmering broth from a soup bone
Then she shakes in salt and pepper, basil and oregano
Cuts up carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, peppers, even okra

Sunday stew, grandma's making Sunday stew
It's a big ol' family meal, here comes Aunt Lucille
for Sunday stew

Then she adds the beef that Grandpa brought home from the butcher shop
Throws in some noodles, takes out a big wood ladle and stirs it up
Tops it off with a couple more cloves of garlic, she says it keeps us healthy

Sunday stew, grandma's making Sunday stew
Here comes Uncle Ed, he baked up all the bread
For Sunday stew

Then we wait around for a couple of hours on the back porch
Take out the photo albums, we thought we'd seen 'em all but there's always more
Pitch some horseshoes, play some croquet, even though I never understood the rules

Sunday stew, grandma's making Sunday stew
We got football on TV, we got cousins – 23
for Sunday stew

At the table we all bow our heads and you know what? I really am thankful
I got my family and I got this food to eat for that I'm so grateful
My wish for all the world is that everyone could have a day like this

Sunday stew, grandma's making Sunday stew
But don't make the mistake of not saving room for cake

This is real catchy!!  :D :D  I have to admit I would never have thought about writing a song about Grandma's cookin!!  but you know what?? It works.  I have many fond memories of my Grandma!! She was almost 103 when she passed.  So.... this really made me smile and remember her!!  Thanks for that!!

Ferryman_1957

A great catchy song that creates a really nice image in the mind. It'll really benefit from some nicer recording gear, it's a really upbeat and uplifting song!

Cheers,
