The last few posts are hilarious. I think Blooby is right. The hat, beard, wig combo must have helped.

IMO it's mostly part of the tradition.

Here, for instance, Christmas holidays means essentially EATING really great quantities of home made Italian food (lasagne, tortellini, fish dishes, cotechino...but the list could be very, very long...) AND SWEETS (panettone, pandoro, cassata...long list here too).

There's no association here - generally speaking - between Chistmas holidays and drinking alchoolics.

Another old Christmas tradition here (apart from the usual ones, e.g. gifts, shopping etc.) WAS playing cards (in families, but also among group of friends) and also playing a sort of Italian family bingo, called tombola. But these last years it's becoming less usual.

Did anyone notice that the movement of the back end of the car is faked? Just the last foot or less moves. The rest of the car is perfectly still. If you watch the dark, horizontal line between the bumper and the wheel well, you'll see that only part of it moves.

My eyesight isn't the best, but that looks real enough to me. Next, you'll tell me this guy isn't the real Santa Claus.
