Thanks so much for the comments everybody, it really means a lot. You know how it goes, you get so close to working on something which you think is going to turn out OK but after you listen to it for the two hudredth time tweaking some part of the mix you start to think it's not as good as you felt it could have been, so it's great to get such positive feedback. Usual insecurity of the artist I guess.

Glad you like the overall mix and sounds. I think the BR 800 has really enabled me to build on what I have learnt with the MBR and to try out some of the great tips that folks like Hooper, Henwrench and AndyR have posted here. It's a very powerful little box and the bass amp simulator is great. I was really able to get a great bass sound straight from the BR800 (I was going for an Ampeg like sound), whereas previously i would have had to fiddle with my effects pedal. I knew that would be crucial to the song, although I have to admit the central bass riff is not mine. It was created by the bass player in my band at the time we wrote this song (I was on guitar at that time), and I felt it would be great for this song.

I have to agree with Dave and say this project has been really hugely rewarding while also being challenging for me personally because it's pushed me to work in a way that I haven't before. I've also really enjoyed hearing the other great songs that have been built on the foundation of FuzzFace's great lyrics.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment, it's really appreciated.

Cheers,

Nigel

QuoteWhat about your guitar sound?  What went into that?

The guitar sounds were all tweaked patches from the BR800 The rhythm sounds were BluesDrv and US Combo with a bit of chorus added to get a fuller sound. I played one rhythm track with the Telecaster and one with the Jagmaster to vary the sound a bit more. The lead for the solo was a heavily modded lead patch (can't remember which one), while the echoey guitar at the end was the 80s Solo patch with a bit more echo. This patch is basically an early U2 guitar sound, and my playing was hugely influenced by The Edge on U2's first album (Boy).

All done with guitars straight into the BR800, it really is great.

Tharek, glad you like it! A lot of time was spent on this, i might be able to think about that other project soon....

Cheers,

Nigel

I've been purposely holding back on listening to the Picasso stuff, waiting for it all to be done and in one place....but when I saw who'd done this, well I just had to have a peek under the wrapper so to speak...  And oh my!!  What a mad track, awesome and sounds great. Everything is ace, but those vocals!! Oh man!!

Damn straight Nigel, this is frigging good man.  I almost forget how good it is, then I listen again after a few days, and damn man...what a track.  Everything in its place, that chorus is killer.

I waited until the time was right, and I could give this the full amount of my attention. Right now, after my 2nd listen, I'm still searching for the words to convey my thoughts on the excellence of this song. Nigel, this is well worth the wait that I forced myself to partake in. I have been hovering over this post for 3 days like a kid at Christmas.

Brilliant work my friend. IPOD
